Yes it would cost $500. For both front and back camera.
No it would not be a manual process. The Garmin is automatic and can be left on. But you want a manual process. Its just for those rare times that you need a spotter. Otherwise it would make you feel like an old lady driving a Cadillac ctsv.

(p.s. the way that the garmin is automatic; if there is power to the camera, it assumes you are backing up. nothing wrong with leaving the power on all the time)

To that end garmin makes a great screen with an excellent backup camera. I bought my car for the interior/coachmanship and would not alter it even with an air freshener.
Ah, OK. There are already ways to do that. Use an old phone that will fit, I think a Galaxy S3 fits almost perfectly in there. Use a bluetooth camera and there ya go.

How do you get the S3 to turn on automatically when you start the car? I have an old S3 and was hoping to use for both camera and OBD check.

That is what I wrote in my first post on this thread. And gave instructions.

You never turn it off.
But you have to change the mindset, clearly this car made no effort to be handicap nor geriatric friendly. (Like the Mercs, bmw and audis.) Everything requires more deliberate and contemplated action. Even getting in. Reversing is no different. One can look at it as a car made to make or keep you younger, it forces you to not turn your upper body to reverse, as those caddy drivers do; instead it makes you rely on the force withing (remember when you could back a car up without even looking in the mirror) The backup camera would just be for the times the force was weak, after a few glasses of libations.

Now, when you think through the cell phone idea- the garmin makes way more sense. Because of the boot time of the backup camera software. The garmin stays on the backup camera as long as there is power to the camera. They have written an excellent software that even allows you to calibrate the guidelines to your car. Better, they have posted videos on their site so that diyers can do it.

Found another possible solution:
Large slim screen mounted on the sunvisor. You have a perfect power source.
Flush mount the screen in readily available alacantra. Clips on to the non-mirror side of visor. you can still use mirror to put lip gloss on.

The garmin again works best because their whole ecosystem is about quick boot and can be left on for hours on end. In fact, its the only device that turns itself on if it detects power, and off when power is cut. several of their screens work with the bc30 cameras.

Hi Steve - Any new progress report for us?
I'm a week away from starting a bunch of mods on my car, and was hoping to add your camera controller to my list!

Gosh, I hate not being able to deliver, but the stars have not aligned yet on this particular project due to family issues this summer and also some technical reasons.

I am reviewing approaches for going forward and will provide details soon.

(My other products are still shipping as usual.)

Hey, understood, family comes first, the cars are just our toys.
Hope things turn out well, and will be looking for the camera controller when you've got it buttoned up and ready to roll!

So far, this thread seems to be the most comprehensive and OEM style retrofit of the "Park Assist Camera", but it necessitates the use of a modified SDD program....

Take a read and see what you think.

So, depending on your location, you MAY be within reach of someone who has the necessary equipment to enable your car to utilize hardware you could install for really not much cost at all.

Are you anywhere near Dallas or Salt Lake City???
Maybe NZ???

Aking124,

I noted that you just joined the Forum. If you haven't already read this thread, click on this link for an inexpensive and much easier alternative to integrating a backup cam in the touchscreen display: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...option-206212/

Thank you! Been reading a lot of these over the past year. Just finally ready to pull the trigger and wanted to see if anyone had any more elegant solutions. Spoke with WhiteXKR earlier as well. Amazing resource.
