Im curious to know if, ceramic coating, could help protect the rubber boot. I applied some to the rubber seals on th e exterior and its been holding up extremely well. Moving parts is a whole different story though
Typically boots/gaiters last around 8-10yrs if not driven in harsh environments
Not these, there are reports of these things failing MOT, getting replaced and failing two years later. They are not honest rubber like in the OP's image, more of an opaque silicone rubber that seems to dry rot really quickly. The joints underneath are some flavor of teflon and wear really well. I don't understand why Jaguar chose that material.
I'm replacing both front upper control arm ball joint boots on MY2011 XKR. Car has only 24K miles so just replacing the boots and repacking w/ grease.
My question now are the joints lubed with a silicon grease? Sure feels like it.
I measured the ball joint stem at 12 mm and the upper seat diameter at 30.4 mm. (I ordered two different pairs: 12-29-24 and 13-30-22. I let you know which fit better. )
