Default Banana arms question

Hi all,

Last time I took my 07 XK for service (95k miles) they noted that both front banana arms had play.
I shortly after took it for the MOT and they didn't mention anything (even though I believe they check control arms etc and saw them checking and pulling on the car quite a bit when it was on the lift).

I can clarify with the garage but so I can have an educated conversation, does it usually mean changing the arm? If so how much is it usually and does t have to be done by Jag/a jag specialist or is it something that can be done by any garage doing suspensions (is it more specialied on an XK?)

Thanks

No it doesn't need to be done by a jaguar specialist or dealer. Yes you need to change out the arm because the smaller end has a non replaceable bushing. Though you could just press the larger bushing, assuming no play in the smaller one. I believe the larger one takes the brunt of force. The labor charge would probably be an hour each side to do a swap. If removing and replacing the bushings, add a few more hours of labor. Then the car will need an alignment.

The expense is in the part itself if replacing. I bought from Eurospare. Jaguar's (Lemforder's) price is mind boggling to me.

And Eurospare is the ONLY JLR authorized aftermarket supplier, and quite reasonably priced.

Thanks all.
Looking at this website, berkshirejagcomponents.com it, shows 2 parts, C2P17091 and C2P17091R (right side?). Is that the part?

Not sure why the prices difference between the 2 (100GBP and 78 GBP ex vat)
I can see they also sell just the bigger bush but yes, don't know if the smaller bush is defective or not...
Thanks

As you are in England, Berkshire Jag Components is a good source for OE equivalent LEMFÖRDER suspension parts.

An R after the P/N usually indicates an alternative aftermarket part.

I changed the large bush on both sides of my 2006.
The earlier design was oil filled and one of mins leaking. So many superseded no’s
not too bad to do but you will need a press.

The manual says you need to change the concentric bolt but I reused the originals.

I got 2 Jag original bushes off Ebay for Ł20

you will need a wheel alignment
If you do yourself mark the original positions with a scratch or marker pen before undoing anything

I seem to remember that on the US forum there was a post with equivalent ford part no’s for a Lincoln at a fraction of the cost. And when delivered they had Jaguar marked on them.

I've done this on the XK -- replace the large bushing ($100 the pair of Lemfoerders). Funny thing is that you can actually install XK thrust arms reversed, so the bend is towards the center of the car. (ask me how I know) Duh....

Got led down that path because my BMW arms can only go in one way, and I didn't think as I did the XK. And I was just bragging to the guy in the next bay how I did all my own work. Got my comeuppance on that one....Cockiness gets its own reward.

Of course I had to swap them back. And marking the large bolt does reduce the need for an alignment afterward.

Search led me here...I guess you call them banana arms?

2013 XKRS
PPI showed "hydraulic fluid" leaking from the front bushing.
So i can assume these are liquid filled bushings and not just solid rubber etc.

Images below for refence. The PPI included a video of the car and what the tech found....I have a screen grab below. I guess i will just replace them both myself and get the new alignment which the car needs anyway.

Would you recommend the entire part or just the bushings. I have a press...but since the outer bush is un serviceable (from what ive read) i my as well get two new "bananas"
Car has 34Kmiles.
