Default Battery Lifespan

Hello, I am looking to purchase a '07 XKR with 19k miles. The car still has the original battery, I saw a battery charger standing next to the car. What is the life span for a battery, it is 11 years old.... Thanks for the help.

It's waaaywaaay overdue for a new battery. If you buy it, the first thing that you MUST do is install a new battery. Because of all the computers, the X150 (alloy-body XK) is very sensitive to low voltage, which causes a myriad of electrical gremlins.

This Forum has many threads about batteries, the highly-recomm ended CTEK battery maintainer, and much more useful information. The Advanced Search function is very useful to find answers to many of your questions.

If you dont drive and that one wasnt, keep fully charged on a battery tender and it will go easliy 4-8+ years. Don't do that and you will get 2 or less years.
And yeah like stuart said change that battery

Batteries are not very expensive for this car and easy to replace. New battery will put you at ease and buy a CTEK if you don't already have one. It's good to use beyond just the XK.

I'm on 7 years with the original battery. Never used a battery tender. Not everyone's experience is identical.

Why not just leave the CTEK attached? What's the point of 3 days a week if won't be driven all winter? I never take the maintainers off my Jags when they're parked in my garage. They automatically shut off when fully charged and turn back on when needed.

I just replaced my battery, this is the second one while I have owned the car. I bought it used in Mach 2016 and first battery replacement was Oct of 2017 with dealer and Jaguar labeled battery, have no idea how old it was at that time.

I just replaced it Oct 2019 as it was showing signs of fatigue with sluggish start and periodic electrical annoyances. I only hook it up to maintainer when it seems low, usually after top off it is better. This time it didn't get much better even after a recharge. I don't attach the maintainer enough to enhance the life, if we did would expect it to last a lot longer.

This is my Wife's daily driver but only sees around 200 miles per month, all very short trips. We are fortunate that we live a couple miles from everything we could ever want, unfortunate for the battery. Good news it was only $122 from SamsClub for a new battery which I put in myself in less than an hour.

True story: We bought a 2004 XJ8 brand new and replaced the battery for the first time in 2018 ... that's 14 years.

Our 2003 XK8 original battery lasted 12 years.

If stored I put a battery tender on them to run 1 hour per day.

I have an 07 XK and just replaced the battery. It is the 4th battery. The 3rd failed after 3 years. I live in Arizona and the heat is pretty hard on batteries but this car is kept on a tender so pretty disappointed in the battery life.

May be the kind of tender as some keep outputting a small charge - which is a killer.
