I heard from another XKR owner today said much the same. Odd random problems after scanning, unless the engine was on. After working with Foxwell today, evidently they are going to change their prompting. Recommending leaving the engine on while scanning, for Jags anyway.

So my problem a few days ago probably came from leaving the scanner and ignition on for too long a period of time without the engine. A fragile electrical system….

Not quite accurate thinking here.
The voltage you read while the engine was running…. was the generator’s supplied charging voltage. It was not the battery voltage.
Once the engine was shutdown, you read the battery voltage. And at 12.5v, it was either undercharged or starting to deteriorate.

I’m about to buy the icarsoft LR V 2.0 for my 2013 XKR (new varta battery). Should this work ok?
I used to use the i930 (I think) and loved it

Hi Alan, I’ve never heard anything bad about iCarsoft. My problem with Foxwell was software and support. It took weeks for them to correct and install a software patch for my XKR. I guess the take away from the mess I got myself into probably wasn’t the scanner. It was the car’s fragile electrics. The scanner instructions tell you to turn off the engine but leave the ignition on. My battery doesn’t last long with the ignition only before it goes flat. It didn’t when new last year. Must be quite a draw. I always double lock the car when I park it now. Others have said that when the voltage drops in their XKR, odd things happen to the car’s settings. Kind of annoying.

btw Curious about your new battery. I’ve not heard of Varta before. Appears to be a UK product. Did you get the SILVER dynamic 600402083 model? Given my experience with the factory battery, I will propbably look at e GSM alternative when the time comes.

Been there..done that.
1) take the battery to a battery store or auto parts store to have it load tested.
2) reinstall your battery if it is good, it install the new battery.
3) during the above actions, all the confusers have reset…and chances are after the batter is connected up, it will start.

I’ve learned to not run my car in accessory mode.

I used my ICarSoft last year, and after disconnecting, car wouldn't start. Thought I'd bricked it. Tried the hard reset (short battery leads after disconnecting battery) and car thankfully started. The caution with using a scanner is to exit any programs before disconnecting.

Computers that have lost their mind. Which one or more of mine do when run on accessory mode for a while, and the engine has not been started.

I have a 2018 f-pace 3.0, and have been looking at scanners. I came across this document on a forum (maybe this one…).. foxwell says their 909 and 1009 support this standard…not sure about the 710

Glad to see the UK authorities have recognized this and issued a warning to make sure all devices are ISO14229. Whatever that is!
Now I will need to check and see if the code readers recommended have this rating.

Jaguar need to fix their devices!

What a farce.

This is an example of MoT doc

are you requesting that a vehicle pre 2020 be updated to support a 2020 directive? At whose cost?

Moreover, this theme of “battery drain” is grossly over exaggerated… I can explain why all of my modern JLR vehicles can sit for 3 months and still start on demand; The batteries are in a good state of health. There is no maintainer attached.

Not asking that but an OBD command should never affect a vehicle in the way described (i.e. failing to go to sleep).

That's a serious defect no matter when.

Obviously with JLR's troubles they won't fix anything. At least, probably won't.

I am the one that started this thread. When I first posted here, I had owned my XKR for only a few weeks and was shocked to see battery warnings after leaving the ignition on after brief periods of time. Shocked because I thought my factory battery was only a year old, according to the seller. I ran a scan on the car with my new Foxwell scanner and when completed, the battery wouldn’t turn the engine over. I complained about it to Foxwell. After a day or two, they updated my scanner software remotely. The scans were able to complete without draining the battery. I happened to have my car in a shop for Service about that time, so I asked them to test the battery. Yep, lousy battery. I replaced it and never see a low battery warning anymore. I also didn’t know about double clicking the lock button which I now do religiously.

I’ve also added a few gauges via an ODB iPhone app so I can now see car’s voltage, along with coolant temp and boost.

Thanks @Kjeld ,
FWIW, I don’t lock mine when they are in the garage. Thus minimizing drain as the alarm system is not activated.
Cheers
