Default Belt change now squealing

Had the serpentine belt changed out at the shop (not dealer but reputable). Now, after car is run a mile or so, I have a squealing noise only at idle. When I rev up the squealing stops. Is it just new belt noise? Should I just add some belt "dressing". Is belt dressing ever a good idea.
Thanks. Yes, I searched a while. 2010 xkr

I had mine done recently at a Jag dealer - no issues. I'm assuming they used a Jag part. I've used belt dressing years ago - seemed to work ok. Have you talked with the shop that did the work?

Our belt chirped when we bought the car. Belt dressing would stop it for a few months and then it would return. I also changed the idler pulley to the modified design with retaining ridges as recommended by Jaguar but that did not make any difference. Eventually I changed the belt from the smooth type favoured by Jaguar (manufactured by Dayco) to a more textured design made by Gates. Nine months later and the chirping has never returned.

Thanks guys. I have talked to the shop about it, but i was wondering if the belt dressing was a good idea. I appreciate your input. Sounds like the dressing is just a temp fix.

best dressing is a temp fix. It can last months or weeks. It's easy to spray on (ribbed side only of course). Harmless and cheap. The Gates bet Richard mentions is the long term fix.

Take it back to the shop and have them fix it.

… if it was the dealer, the warranty covers parts and service for a year.
And I’m with ’@dangoesfast .

Probably good idea to replace the tensioner also. They also might've gotten the rollers greasy.

My past experience was with the tensioner. Co-incidental that it would happen after the belt change, though...

Belt dressing could mean W-40, and has worked on other cars.

Took it back to the shop. They determined it was the tensioner. Should be picking up tomorrow.
