Default BMW just upped the ante

I've heard the other day that jag will be coming out with a smaller sedan meant to compete with the M3. They better bring their A-game.

Is it just me or did anyone else get the impression that that article and the accompanying comments were written by a bunch of 18 year old "dudes" who own Toyota Corollas with huge wings and giant exhausts?

Meh. Remember that tests show our cars do the same. XKRs are very under rated from the factory. This is the British way. Even makeup marketing has been banned when it's photo chopped.

An m3 is a step up from those who drove civics with fast cans on the 90's. That crowd is older now and farther along financially. The new German cars look too much like Hondas and kias.

The XKR can do 3.9 seconds? I haven't seen that. I like the understated, classy Jaguar brand, while BMW still screams "I ran over a prostitute while I was high and Dad got me off with community service." But I want cold, hard numbers to back up my superiority complex.

All these cars are getting stupidly fast even the 4 door sedans. Mercedes's E63S station wagon 0-60 in 3.4 sec. Audi S8 sedan in 3.7 sec. PCar Panny Turbo S 0-60mph in 3.6 sec.

Jaguar XKR 4.0 0-60
2010 Jaguar XKR – Instrumented Test – Car and Driver

KXR-S 3.6 0-60
2012 Jaguar XKR-S First Drive - Reviews - Car and Driver

Look how stupid this big ol pig is:
2014 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG First Drive – Review – Car and Driver
It's almost 2 feet longer, a foot taller and 800 pounds heavier than an XKR-S ans STILL faster from 0-60.

Another thing to really keep in mind here ya'll is that we're comparing a platform that is a half a decade (for the 5.0's) old to something that is just being released. That's the way it goes. Remember when sub 6 seconds was unheard of to 60mph and 300hp was supercar status from a V8? Nowadays you get better than 300hp in V6 mustakes ( 2013 Ford Mustang V-6 Premium Instrumented Test – Review – Car and Driver ) over 300hp and 0-60 in 5.2! Yes folks, that's faster than the E46 M3's acclaimed; at the time - 5.4 seconds. Hell, even the japanese companies are getting close to 300hp in the cars they make for their low end lines.

Lastly, I'd rather be seen in a 2007 NON R - xk than the bmw. A BMW/mercedes is just traffic and the XK is a special event. It looks great and has style. The design is not a "mee too" carbon co[y of everything else out there.

R-Rated ... you're a smart man. BMWs & Mercedes are both nice cars ... but they're just cars, albeit high-quality, high-performance, high-priced, etc. The Jag on the other hand, regardless of which model within XK Series, is a world class GT luxo-tourer wrapped in a sculptured skin that makes other cars look like they were designed by a 6th grade finger-painting class in Detroit. If I had a dollar for every person who's said to me, "That's the most beautiful car I've ever seen!" ... I'd be well on my way to buying a new one! Long live the Jag XK series!

Sheesh, in this decade, things seem to be getting way out of control with the amount of power these street cars are putting out!

Default Huh?

Sorry ... but "a car with too much power" ... is like "a women who's breasts are too big!"

I would argue that more than a handful is a waste. What are you going to do with the excess? By that I mean if the power makes you slip and slide instead of propelling the vehicle forward then how it's too much to handle.

I've never bought into the theory that more than a handful is a waste.

A car that is more than a handful gets droopy and when the shocks get worn out have very low ground clearance as if to have flat tires.

That's what new, younger cars are for. They also smell better.

BMW just downed the anti:

Their new FWD mini-van is a bit of a departure for them.

Following the C/D links I also found they tested the 5.0 NA and got a 0-60 time of 5.0 sec. Much more respectable than I thought. I'm happier now. It does seem that the company line is understated.
