Don't know about the B&W, but in the previous Alpine "Jaguar Premium" 525W Dolby Pro Logic II of a 2007 XK, a fading FM signal converts to mono through the front center speaker. Driving in-and-out of the perimeter of a strong signal, sound varies from the electronic witchcraft of "5.1 surround sound" to '50s mono. Music from pre 60s mono sources is best listened to in basic "stereo" or it's just in the center speaker. Read the handbook, though it's sometimes vague. "Stereo" in the Alpine does not seem to use the front center speaker. "3 channel" appears to be basically stereo plus the use of the front center speaker. Pro-logic is programmed, as previously stated above, to simulate a concert effect with the lead singer, or primary instrument, emphasized in the front center speaker. The B&W may be different. Volume can vary by source. A commercial CD is stronger than a home-mix CD that has been "normalized" to minimize volume variations from its various sources.

"3-ch" on the B&W seems to be stereo + sub.

I doubt the B&W is a revolutionary change from the original Alpine. For more information than in the owner's handbook Google: Alpine's ground-breaking digital 5.1 (it doesn't mention the Premium sound's remote amplifier in the footwell)

B & W is just the speakers and the config anyway, I think the actual stereo isn't manufactured by them. I thought it was an Alpine.

Passenger footwell; since low bass is omnidirectional, you can put a sub pretty much anywhere.

This may be affected by the size of the cabin in the DBS being smaller than the XKR.
More likely to be that B&W make hi-fi while B&O make "life-style choices".

This is coming pretty late, but my sound-system source has always been either the radio or tunes jacked in from my ipod. Recently I fell prey to an impulse buy and picked up the new Shakira CD at the Starbucks counter. Sigh, it was probably the cover photo that did it. Anyway, the sound reproduction and balance are immensely better with this professionally burned CD. The volume is certainly improved.

So far I think the sound system is very good but the reception leaves something to be desired. I listen to FM most of the time and it seems a few of my local channels are not as strong as they are in my other cars. CD's a great and because I do not have an Iphone/pod or any music on a usb so I have not tried that feature. I still don't understand what the PLY feature is and don't hear to much of a difference between stereo and 3 channel. Then again so far I haven't driven the car with the top up so I don't know how it sounds in a closed area.

I use a mini USB Flash Drive in the docking station inside of the console. I have about 800 songs and it works great.

I downloaded my music from my computer to the mini flash drive.

Key is "don't turn off the sound system" when parking otherwise you have to dock the device all over. The more music the longer it takes to dock the device. I leave the mini USB in the Jaguar all the time. It is never removed unless I add music to it. It is so small there are no wires, no charging cords etc. Just plug/insert the mini flash drive into USB jack in center console and enjoy.

For $18.00 this is a real deal....

Robot Check Robot Check

Hope this helps.

Crystal Method and Daft Punk (electronic music) sounds pretty good from the iPod... Other than that the iPod connection gives out very poor sound quality in the Jag...which is not so in my Infiniti (everything sounds good) .... (Shaking my head).....

There's your problem, Loth! Try James Taylor or Govi.
