Buying an XK with a replacement motor good or bad?
That headlamp is broken, stuck in the 'home' position. When you power up the lights they'll aim 'in' and 'down' to 'home' the alignment. Then they'll move to where they are told. That really sucks and might get expensive fixing. My '07 without the adaptive lamps does the alignment cross eyes home process. I have some picture in my build thread about how I took mine apart to sort them out. The wiring gets damaged by the lamps UV output. There's also a pair of small motors to run the horizontal and vertical axis as well as some adjustable ball studs for them to pivot on and hard align the module.
Do you have any recourse with the seller to get them to fix it?

There is but not enough to align them. There will be two flat white discs on the top of the lamp housing. Gently pop them out to access the two 5 or 6mm hex Allen heads.
Is the car giving you a headlamp fault on the dash? It should since the lamp isn't giving the feedback to the chassis puter. If not I wonder if doing a hard reboot will reset the data link? Disconnect the battery and hold the wires together for 30 seconds. You'll then need to reset the windows, set the e Brake and turn the steering wheel back and forth a couple times so the headlamp adjusting puter learns the steering positions.
These cars still have suffer from some of Lucas's genetics...

Found the battery and tried the hard reset. Did not work and I am not getting any dash lights for it. Tried adjusting the set screw and it moved a little but not near enough.
May just have to live with it.

I'm out of town and replying from my cell, so I'm unable to post the link to my old thread about how I was able to get my iPod Nano to simultaneously charge and play by using the OEM cable with a Scosche adapter that the bought from Amazon. Search this Forum for "Scosche adapter".
Nice looking ride Matt. Are the pics deceiving or is the body that clean? I see no gravel pitting on the front end.
The car is just that clean, insides like brand new and the exterior has only very minor blemishes in the paint. Couple that with a 12k mile motor for $22k and I just couldn't walk away from the deal!
Matt, your left headlamp looks like my right one did when I got the car. I didn't have a headlamp fault on the dash either. Turned out the horizontal drive had popped off the ball connector and was stuck in place. Remove the headlamp assembly, instructions are in the hand book and open the covers, problem should be obvious. As much pressure as it took to pop the carrier back onto the ball, I don't understand how it ever came off.
Headlamp is three bolts (two up top, one accessible in the inner fender with the tire turned), the wiring connector in the back and the washer hose which has a goofy black quick connect button on the white fitting. Takes about ten minutes to wiggle it out from the bodywork. There are two @ 3" screw on access caps that you can pop off to replace the bulbs (I did all the little ones on mine, several were burnt out). The linkage is pretty obvious. You'll be able to reach in and manipulate the bulb housing if it's loose. If not it's probably electrical. Pulling the lens cover off to delve deeper is a mother of a job.
Per than manual, Google for them. I think Jagmanuals had them when I downloaded. There was a couple links in the stickies at the top of this subforum too. They are available free so don't go down the paywall route.

Before I dive off into this I wanted to throw this out there.
Today I fired up the car and turned the steering wheel back and forth full rotation and neither headlamps moved. If the linkage on the drivers side is off track wouldn't the other side still move as it should? Or is there a different problem going on?

All cars have the full steering mechanism, at least on my '07. Only the steering lamp cars actually turn the lamp modules. The other ones just turn on a Xenon lamp on the inside of the housing under a clear crinkle finished diffuser to project light on the inside of a turn. My diffuser is slightly melted on both sides. As a test, headlamps on, the Xenon lamp will light with the turn signal. Newer may be different though.
