car starts then dies...
XKR - 2009 Drove to work this morning and park the car, then decide to change parking spots, motor starts then after 2-3 seconds it dies... I tried to restart it a few times with the same result, I decided to let it rest awhile to not drown it. Before I start it again, does someone know what the problem could be ? Thanks...

More often than not it's a fuel pump issue.
Another thing to try is a different key fob. I have seen other car brands where the car would start and go into lockdown because the fob battery was low. Not sure with a Jag, but its worth a try...

This winter I picked up a 08 XK coupe with 80,000 miles in Atlanta. I drove it to Pensacola, and noticed that when it was restarted when hot (e.g. after refueling) the rpm’s would go up to about 1200 then the drop so low the engine would almost die, then recover and settle into a regular, smooth idle at 7-800 rpms.
Over the next few days I noticed that on cold start it behaved normally but when making a hot start it would almost die, dropping to 1-200 rpm’s then recover to idle normally. In Pensacola I had a local Indy change the oil and I took the opportunity to check the undercarriage. Everything looked OEM, in good condition with no evidence of anything being replaced.
About 2 hours into the long drive from Pensacola to Minnesota I had to stop at a rest area for a few minutes, when attempting restart the engine it started, went up to about 1200 rpm’s, then died. It did this several times until I caught it with the throttle and held the rpm’s at about 2000 for a few seconds then allowed it to settle to a regular smooth idle. During the next 1300 miles or so, I stopped 3 or 4 times for fuel, each time I started the hot engine after refueling this condition became less and less until it didn’t do it at all, and upon hot restart it settled immediately into a regular smooth idle.
At no time did the CEL (Check Engine Light) come on, and no codes are present. The car has been in the garage at home since its arrival, as the weather has been beastly, so I’ve had no chance to find out if the condition has cured itself, or if it’s still present.
Aside from the hot start issue the car ran faultlessly. On arrival in Minnesota I notice the exhaust tail pipes are absolutely spotless as far down the exhaust pipes as I can see with a flashlight, no hint of carbon or any other deposits, it looks like new! Remarkable for an engine with this many miles.

White Bear.

There was a TSB issued (JTB00268) for the 2006-2009 MY cars to do with winter fuel containing 10% Ethanol and the fix was to update the Powertrain Control Module. The problem supposedly exhibited itself after the car had sat for 20 minutes or so though.
"Situation: The customer may report a rough engine start or stall following hot soak of 20 to 30 minutes.
Cause: Fuelling calibration not robust for the market winter blend 10% ethanol fuel."

Update...one hour after the problem, the car starlted perfectly...just one of its quirks, probably. Sometimes the audio system doesn't start, but it works the next time I start the car. I also have. 2007 X type that has a finicky phone...maybe there is just too much inbreeding with these thorouhbreds.
