Firstly, Sorry if this question has been asked ad nauseam. Since purchasing my 2010 XK in 2013, I have always gone to Jaguar for my yearly oil changes. Considering $300 is crazy for an oil change, I'd like to go to my independent, but want to use the closest equivalent to the recommended Castrol Edge Professional E C5 0W-20 which doesn't seem to be able to be had. What have you guys been using instead and where can it be purchased? Of course I'll be using the factory OEM filter. Thanks all.
Thanks Cee Jay. I'm not sure if you do your own oil changes or send it out. How does one instruct or know exactly how much oil to fill without the use of a dip stick? I have a 2010 XK 5.0 I certainly don't want to see an over fill message once the car is started. Thanks again.
I measure everything I suck out as I keep the old bottles from the previous fill. There is a site line on the side of the bottle so the exact same goes back in as came out. Any other measurement device could be used, of course. Yes, I do my own changes with an extraction pump when the oil is warmed up a bit. Cold oil just won't come out without a fight.
Only 300?!? My jag dealership charged me 500 and THAT… was when I got pissed and started doing my own. I don’t care about specs this and that….top synethetic oil is great oil. I’ve been running pennzoil ultra platinum the last 20k miles that comes factory in the Hellcats and the car runs better then Castrol…. Change it every 3k usually… never ran smoother.

Cee Jay,
lots of extractors on the market. Any recommendations?
I am planning on going the route that Cee Jay has gone (Using Castrol Edge) and will make sure that my independent will be using this product. I'm also considering Mobile 1 ESPX2 0W-20. It's absolutely mind blowing that Castrol that sells their Castrol Pro to Jaguar WILL NOT recommend any product for our cars. Something stinks about that, and I'm not aware of another manufacturer doing the same unless someone knows something I don't.

Nah, I just bought a cheapie offa Amazon. The first brand I bought leaked a bit after the third use. The slightly better one I use now has worked great for five years now. Can't remember which, no stickers left on it.
The only reason to use the Jaguar recommended Castrol "Unobtainium" motor oil was when your car was still under the factory warranty. That oil contained a dye that made it easy for Jaguar dealers to deny warranty claims if the recommended oil wasn't used.
In my opinion, the top product of any major brand of the correct viscosity fully synthetic motor oil will work just fine, provided you change the oil and filter every 5,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first.
^^^. You really notice a difference in running with different oil?
oh yeah…. Night and Day for me using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum vs dealership Castrol oil.
it felt like a Vice was taken off my engine. I look forward to oil changes as well now that they cost me nothing more then the filter and oil keeping 400+ bucks in my pocket I do every 3000 miles changes now.

@bocatrip I've been using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W20* for over 5 years and over 200K miles, exceeds the specs of the JLR OE oil and is only about $25 for 5 quarts AND it provides up to a 750,000/20-year warranty
I’m starting to believe any high quality 0W/20 oil should suffice. My independent encouraged me to bring my own oil if I desire. He uses Jag OEM oil filter along with new drain plug and washer. Sounds fair enough. $165 with his oil, filter, drain plug and washer including taxes out the door. Sounds way better than Jag’s $300++.

Your 2010 wouldn't need a drain plug as the oil is extracted out the top, as well as the filter element on top. No need to lift the car or get near the pan. It's a fifteen minute job to change oil, nearly mess-free. Course, the extraction pump is required.
