Default Catalytic Converter Fault

I have a 2007 XKR with 54K miles and got a check engine light. I took it in and the first time they said it was for the left catalytic converter. They reset the message and a few days later the light came on again went back in and they said that now it shows both cats need to be changed. They checked the car and said that they don't find any restriction in the flow of the exhaust. I haven't noticed any change in the performance of the car.

Is there a sensor that could be causing this fault to show up? I've never seen or heard of a cat failing at only 54K miles. I have only had 1 cat fail and that was at 160K miles. I've put over 300K miles on cars without a cat failure so this puzzles me.

Any ideas?

Dennis

People are going to scream at me, but I also had a CAT EFFICIENCY code come up. I asked my friendly local Euro Mechanic about it, and he said he gets fantastic results with Catalytic Converter Cleaner about 60% of the time.
I tried some, and I haven't had the code return in almost two years now.
Simple, cheap and easy.
You could at least TRY it before panicking or throwing money at stuff.

I've never tried that but I have tried cylinder head gasket repair fluid and, somewhat surprisingly, that did stop leak so I'm not knocking anything.

I used the Catalytic Converter cleaning fluid. At first it didn't seem to work but after I drove the car for awhile the light went off and has stayed off.
Thanks for the advice.
