Changed Alternator and now Electrical Problems
I am in the UK 2007 Jaguar XK. The alternator became noisy and so I have changed it for a new unit form a UK Jag specialist . Its a pattern part appears of good quality .
Now on start up I have a battery not charging message on the dash and after about 10 seconds the radiator cooling fan comes on full blast and stays on until shut down, actually runs 15 seconds after shut down.
The car has been without fault until now .
I have two batteries to choose from a regular and an AGM. At rest they are both above 13 volts. The batteries are not faulty I do not have a low or damaged or discharged battery . When the engine is running I am seeing about 14.2/14.5 volts so I think it is actually charging .
So my two issues are the not charging warning on the dash and the cooling fan coming on .
Appreciate of any thoughts . Thanks

Thanks. I bought from a Jag specialist a pattern part with a cross referencing to the original unit and my troubles began . I am hoping this weekend to try the original, now with new bearings and another identical used unit to see if my troubles end .
Probably a chineseimun part, they won't cut the mustard with a Jaguar XK - they need to be denso OE quality
Thank you for the replies. If only it was that simple . The NAPA part you have linked , made in China! Appreciate your help let's see what this weekend brings.
There's nothing stopping China making OE quality goods, that's up to the manufacturer - NAPA are reputable - how much did you pay for the original alternator as most quality ones will be upwards of £200 for a decent OE replica
As an aside I have spent a lot of time in Chinese manufacturing plants over the past 8 years and UK ones too. On ballance the Chinese ones are ahead in my view.
I have ordered that NAPA one after checking with them they would take it back if it did not work. They confirmed made in China.

As for China, I have been there on business they make some of the worst junk possible and also they make stuff as good as anyone else - it depends on how much Quality Control and attention to detail is used - it goes without saying the more expensive stuff usuallly costs more.
Let us know how it goes, you said you had a AGM battery have you put in a regular SLA battery in to see if the battery not charging goes away? Replacing the alternator is a huge pain in the axe

This came with the NAPA
To update. Original albeit noisy alternator back on and codes gone and charging properly. It would appear the replacement unit I bought is faulty or wrong spec .
I am getting an original unit rebuild and will go with that .
Swapping it out on a UK car remains a horrible job . Even after three goes practice.

Are you saying that the NAPA part did not work? That makes no sense - do you have a regular SLA battery fitted?
Changing the Alternator is a pig, that's why I done all the pulleys and belts at the same time.

Yes..better to do it all..
I had the motor mounts replaced too since you have to lift the engine to get to it..
Hmm, when mine was done no mention of the mounts - cooling pipes were removed for easy access.
