Default 92 XJS 115 A Alternator

I have a replacement rebuilt Bosh 115 A alternator with internal regulator chip, and output voltage on gauge goes down below 12 when engine gets hot. Anyone else having same, and is it likely the internal regulator or the diode pack on the back of the alternator, or the cooling fan shimmed too far away from the front of the alternator? Fan much closer on original, and I had to shim to prevent it wasn't rubbing on the housing on the rebuild. Real pain to replace as smog pump has to come off, and fan blade dismounted to get support bolt out, and put on lift and remove splash pan to get at belt tensioners, so I want to plan before I take the day to replace it again and listen to my back complain.
Thanks
Dave

Thats happening to mine. I changed the altenator for another but no differance. when I put a volt meter across the battery it shows it's charging OK so I am suspecting the actual volt meter. Or could there be another reason.?

Thanks - I'll check voltage at the alternator output terminal and at the battery when hot and idling. May also be easier looking at the book to pull the dash out and check at meter than to pull the alternator. Going in for lower back surgery next week, so it will be spring before I can do anything more strenuous.

I am assuming the V12, or is it the 1/2 engine??

Had a guy in Manila with a 91 V12 with that, and eventually they removed the "load dump module" from the wiring at the rear of the alternator, all sweet. That was 12 or more years ago, and still OK last we spoke.

If its the 6cyl, dash earth is probably the cause, reeked havoc with the earlier cars, probably still lurking in your year model.

YEP, wait for spring.

Is that the little black box screwed to the end plate?

I believe so.

The Manila guy was NOT car orientated, but claims he found it and removed it between bears, so had to be simple.

i disconnected this suppressor today and started the car and for the first time in months i heard the drive belt screech, also the voltmeter went straight up to 13.5 something it hasn't done for months. I'll take it for a run
next week to see, and if it does work, WHY????
so fingers crossed.
