Can't remove throttle body
I'm trying to remove the throttle body for cleaning on my 1994 Jaguar XJS 4.0, and have removed the four bolts that secure it to the manifold. However, the unit won't budge. I've tapped it with a rubber mallet, but nothing. Is there something that I'm missing that still is holding it so securely?
I have a 93 4.0. I don't recall doing anything tricky to remove the body. I removed my without any issues to do a cleaning. Be careful you don't damage the fuel idle sensor located on the bottom of the body, should be red in color.
Someone must have applied some kind of sealer.
There is nothing other than those 4 10mm bolts that hold it in place. Make sure you have disconnected the TPS and the coolant lines...although the AJ6 may not have coolant lines....

Thank you for the replies! I thought for sure something other than the four bolts was holding it fast to the intake manifold--I had rapped on a piece of wood with a hammer, but it was like striking a block of stone. But then I used a paint scraper wedged at the connection to the throttle body, and after two or three taps, it fell off.
All that said, the TB was all gunked up with a thick oily carbon deposit, as was the interior of the manifold. And as I read in another post, the two open tubes that rise up from the bottom of the manifold were quite covered in the carbon (I should have taken photos, but I always seem to think about that after the fact), so I carefully chiseled it away from the opening (and sprayed a bit of TB cleaner around it, too).
So now I'm cleaning up that part of the engine bay that is now revealed, and will later reinstall everything.

Like Vee said, I too am not sure if the AJ6 has the coolant line through the throttle body. My AJ16 does have that coolant line and I found that it was completely blocked by hard gunk when I removed the throttle body. Might something to check.
