Default Child Seat Top Tether

While not our primary vehicle, we enjoy taking our 2-year old son for the occasional cruise on the lakeshore in the XKR Convertible. He has been in a rear-facing infant seat, which I was able to make fit with the passenger side front seat all the way forward (wife is 5'2" and doesn't mind) and the rear-facing unit installs easily using the lower latch system (hooks in the rear seat crease)....He's not a big fan of the top-down wind yet, so once he's into the seat I put the top up.

However, our son is moving into the forward facing seat now and in Canada those seats require use of the top-tether (in addition to the lower latches). According to the owners manual, my convertible (which is a US car) does not have a top-tether anchor point, though the coupes do. I did read a couple comments in my research though that suggests some convertible did come with a top tether. Can anyone confirm? If there is anything I'd like to install it so we can continue to use the Jag for these pleasure drives.

The rear seat and back are easily removed. If you're handy, you should be able to fabricate a tether that is accessible after the seat is reinstalled. You may want to check with your Jaguar dealer in Canada to see if they have an accessory tether or have other advice.

P.S. Also check Ebay. Here's one possibility:

Thanks. I did call my local dealer - closed for the COVID stuff, but their voicemail said they are returning calls, so we'll see what they can come up with. Otherwise, yes, I wonder if I can take a bolt-on setup from another car and fab something up. Another project.

Your XKR has many Ford parts, so this Ford anchor would look like it came from the factory. You would have to drill through the floor to attach it properly, and leave an extension strap installed for the child seat tether to clip onto after the rear seat is installed. But that should work and be safe.

Have a look behind the rear seat back, easy to remove, and see if fitted or at least mounting point for anchorage

My convertible has hook anchors. I thought they were mandated at some point.

I think you didn't see it! It's directly above the photo in my post #2.

Correct. LATCH anchors (US terminology) are required by Federal law. The X150 convertible probably has tether fittings fitted to the floor behind the rear seats, but I never looked (and never will). Here's a good explanation:

Hafren, what year and country was that owners manual for?

Stuart - Yes, I had missed your above post. Sorry, and thanks for the link. If I don't have mine behind the tonneau/seats I'll probably order those and see if I can make them work.

Its from the 2010 manual JJM 10 02 30 101 which I think is the UK manual. Anyway you should have a look at the "parcel shelf" on your car and see what's there.

Yep, I'll get in there and take a look in the next few days....It's covered up in the garage right now, waiting for a decent day to take it out so I can drop the top and look around.
