Code reader recommendations
I have a 2007 XK convertible and need a good OBD2 code reader that is better than my faithful (cheap) Autozone model. Specifically, I need to figure out why my adaptive headlight warning is constantly flashing, as well as the infamous "cruise not available" message. I get "No Codes" on this reader as well as my Autel that I got when I bought my 2000 XKR a few years ago. I have looked at several online, but they are very non-specific on what they will read and how far they will drill down. I am sure this has been beaten to death, but I can't find anything recent. Thanks in advance.
I purchased this one that works well.

Thanks, Miles. I was just looking at this unit on Amazon. Seems like a good price if it does what I need it to. It says I need to be connected to a network to use it. I guess that is fine as long as I am at home when I use it.

I just bought an Autel AP200 so I wouldn't have to hook up all the SDD stuff to reset my seat module. A little weird to do, but two minutes and all was great. One vehicle make free software download for the $50 price and I was quite a happy guy.
The Autel AP200 is used widely by members here. I bought one a few years ago, but I’ll be damned if I can find it now. So I bought another one and keep it in the trunk/boot, so I don’t misplace it too.
Also have the AP200 for quick diagnostics and live data while driving. No programming with it other than resetting seats. I don't recall if it gives codes down to the 7th digit or just 5 but it reads body, engine, chassis codes for you Jaguar.
HI,
I have been wanting to move from JLR SDD to a handheld reader and been doing home work related to it. I also wanted to program keys so this is a must. I have a foxwell reader whihc could work as use iot on Audi and BMW so would just need the software but find it limited. I have been comapring Autel, Icarsoft and fopund xtool

After watching reviews etc decided on the below. Still yet to purchase but looks good and has partity features of the others and a bit more.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I am looking at all of them. One of my concerns is depending on an App on my phone to work on my car. Not sure at this point, but I may prefer a self-contained unit. I am also looking at iCarsoft CR Max and LR V3.0. Again, my primary reason at this point is to figure out my headlight system and my cruise control. I don't mind spending a few bucks if I know it will do what I need.

The Icarsoft CR max was the one I would buy if was not going to get the xtool one. No subs free updates and did not want to lockit to the JLR specific one as I have other cars. I feel like I am collecting diagnostic toolt, Have ross tech for vw/audi paid £450 for the full version, have the foxwell n511? for use on bmw/mini but you get rolls royce free, the jlr sdd and then will get xtool at some point :-). Maybe should open a diagnostics centre lol!!!
This works well as a basic scanner, but no extended codes nor programming is possible, not even the seats.
I do believe Torque does the same job, and that light version is free. $6 bluetooth OBD2 dongles are available, and most of them work okay. The ELM327 is one of the cheaper ones, and those do work as basic scanners with Torque Lite.

Having both the iCarsoft and the Autel AP200, I'd suggest the Autel unless you need very in-depth readouts. The iCarsoft could see voltage outputs and control certain modules, but couldn't do things that it said it could do like calibrate the seats (I just kept getting errors, while the Autel worked first time). The Autel was like $80 NZD off of Aliexpress vs the iCarsoft being $450 NZD. YMMV.
