Default Convertible trunk space

2008 xk convertible

I’m going on a long weekend trip soon and would like to utilize what little space is available for some luggage.

My plan is to unload everything at the hotel and then if weather permits drive around with top down.

Is there any reason why I can’t slide the inner trunk cover forward and load luggage for the trip? I wouldn’t be driving with top down nor would I try to lower it until the contents were removed and the cover put in place.

That is exactly why it is there. It's made to retract for extra room. You will not be able to lower the top without it put back into place.

To maximize the stuff you can fit into your XK, use soft luggage and plastic trash bags instead of hard luggage. Lots of stuff will fit behind the front seats if it's in plastic trash bags.

Do you have a spare tire? If so, you can remove it and the jack and tools and leave them at home to free up that space. Replace the spare with a 12-volt tire pump (air compressor) and a can of Fix-A-Flat ... and a Bible so you can pray that you don't get a flat. Note that the odds are in your favor.

My 2009 XKR Portfolio convertible came from the factory without a spare because it has Alcon brakes. A 12v tire pump and a spray can of tire sealant was standard equipment. Although I never got a flat, I added a spare tire just to feel safer. And I haven't had to use it. Yet.

Funny, I have a large can of fix a flat, a pump, a tire plug kit and a spare...if I need a tire where I'm going (20") it will extend my weekend for several days!
I might add the bible for good measure. Is there a preferred religion that works better with British Autos?
