Coolant hose parts check please.
Wifes 2013 XK has a leak at the top rear of the engine that I found after a low coolant message. Confirmed by low coolant in res with fresh coolant drips on the top of trans and the underside of the wet pipe(s) above. 'Since im in there'....are there any other pipes coolant related in that area? I only see one.
So far I came up with;
Item 12: AJ814007, AJ811600, JDE1634. That would be one pipe, one sensor and a gasket.
Pump was replaced around 30k by Jag and the car has 55k on it right now. Im fairly confident I found the culprit as that's the only place I found a leak. R/R looks fairly straight forward.....does anything else need to come off to get to the larger plastic water pipe?
Thanks in advance.

Are you certain that the leak isn't coming from the water pump or the plastic overflow tank? Both are common sources of leaks. I'd do a pressure test with UV dye to pinpoint the source before replacing any hoses.

Yes. I ran my fingers under the pipe in question (which is at the top, center, back engine) and it was wet with fresh coolant dripping dead center on the trans tunnel. Both the coolant tank and pump are in different parts of the engine bay and dry, thus my prognosis. But if there is another suspect that lives in the area (back, top of engine), im all ears.
Before I bought my XK I would just tell her to go our old Independent as I didnt want to be bothered. Now I have a vested interest if that makes sense haha. I wouldnt have known but my car had freshly painted calipers and were in 'drying mode' blocking in my other car. That left us driving hers to go out the other night....then the message popped up.
I had the exact same issue, and had my dealer repair it. The Tech advised me that it had metal lines when I questioned him about any other plastic lines that could be replaced. He told me the lines were fine, that only the seals needed to be replaced. Please let us know what you find though.
Update...job done. Not as bad as I thought, 4 bolts, 2 hoses and an electrical clip. Part # aj814007 includes the sensor and the two O rings. Tomorrow Ill do the air filter and clean the MAF sensor as her car doesnt run as well as mine and needs some love. She took me out for Mexican food as a thank you.....so win-win.
As for what failed....this pipe is plasti-welded together along the length. That seam failed.

You're lucky, I have to remove the supercharger.
I say easy...but it still took me 1.5 hours because A) Its not my car, B) I had to dig around my garage (and boat) searching for the correct Torx bit and C), I dont have a set of hose clamp pliers. I couldn't get leverage to get the press to fit heater coolant line off so I had to use a small pair of vice grips to take the other end off. Im actually digging working on her car as this is the first mechanical failure ever on her XK. I just think of it as me getting a free education with her paying for parts. Ill probably pick up a set of plugs with the air filters tomorrow and call it done. But I know when one coolant part goes.......fun times.
I just ordered the tools for future use, so lesson learned.

Those plastic coolant hoses are a big problem and more of a problem for the XKR where the supercharger needs to be removed. With only 18,000 miles on my XKR I replaced all plastic coolant hoses, both front and back manifolds, valley hose, thermostat and housing, etc. I had the dealer do it while the car was in for service to have the supercharger torsion isolator replaced under certified warranty. Ended up having a new supercharger installed because they bent the actuator (good think I noticed it and had pictures to prove tbe damage). The new replaced manifolds are 1 piece, not welded, but still plastic. Where my car has very low milage I never replaced the infamous water pump; however, I check the water pump and coolant level regularly. Still love the car since owning my first 2011 XKR.
