Default Coolant warning??

The outlet on my Jag's header tank broke off. Resulting in the coolant to leak out. I drove the car +/- 10km's before I saw steam emerging from under the bonnet. There was no warning what so ever!!
My S-Type had a warning light to warn you when the coolant was low.
I can't find any mention that the XK has any indicator of overheating or low coolant level!
Please help!!!!!

I've checked the XK Driver's Handbook and it appears this is right. There is no Temperature Gauge or Low Coolant Level warning on this model. (owners please jump in and correct this if I've misinterpreted the manual)

The warning is limited to a FLUID LEVEL LOW warning in the MESSAGE CENTRE (see items boxed in red in the following extract from the Driver's Handbook):

This is probably because both the Temperature Gauge and the Low Coolant Level Sensor in the previous XK8/XKR and the XJ8/XJR were completely useless. By the time any warning appeared, the engine was already seriously overheated. Hopefully the XK/XKR warning is triggered more reliably.

Thanks Graham! My owners manual is a little different, but states the same. When my car lost the fluid, there was no indicator showing that she overheated.
Maybe I caught it just in time. It is horrifying to think that the engine must first overheat before you receive any kind of warning!
On my S-Type the header tank also leaked, but she had a sensor warning me that the fluid level was low. I replaced the tank with no further hassles.
I wonder if anyone else had problems with their header tanks, 2 of my 3 had tanks that perished?

Had low coolant in October and only got warning of "Engine Temperature Indication Fault" instead of Low Coolant.

Here was my Warning: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...86/#post608597

It looks like there are three temperature related warnings that could appear:

ENGINE TEMPERATURE HIGH:
Amber warning triangle illuminated in LCD at temperatures of between 118.0°C (244.4°F) and 119.3°C (246.8°F).

ENGINE OVERHEATING:
Red warning triangle illuminated in LCD at temperatures of 119.4°C (247°F) or above.

ENGINE TEMPERATURE INDICATION FAULT:
Red warning triangle illuminated LCD which means a fault has occurred in the engine management system and the engine temperature signal is no longer being received.

So the TEMPERATURE HIGH warning illuminates the Amber Warning Triangle (arrowed in red in this graphic), OVERHEATING illuminates the Red Warning Triangle (arrowed in blue in the graphic) and there's also a message in the MESSAGE CENTRE (item 16 in the graphic)?

Provided the temperature at which these two warnings appear is accurate, that's a major improvement on the monitoring systems on previous models.

Where did you find the information?

Graham

I have never cared that much for warning lights. They never seem to give an early warning of pending doom.
There are several aftermarket gauges that plug into your OBDII port. I find that my '07 runs consistently at 203 degrees, which is exactly as Jaguar specifies.
203 degrees is a bit warm for my tastes. I know that under ideal circumstances like on a dyno, lab or race car the most power is made at higher coolant temperatures. Tuners like A. Graham Bell prefer a lower coolant/underhood temperature for street driving. I believe our OEM thermostat is a 190 degree model, which begins to open at 190 and is fully open at 203 degrees.
I know that Eurotoys offers a cooler thermostat: Jaguar Low-Temp Thermostat - Jaguar Performance Parts.
But this thermostat does not fit the 07+ XK/XKR. These use a much smaller size thermostat.
I'd like to exchange my OEM 190 degree thermostat. I know Jaguar does not offer a cooler model, but what cooler model will fit?
