Thanks for the tips. I was able to get all the residue off. It’s much improved with not having people think it was spilled soda or something. That sticky coating is nasty stuff.

The previous owner must have used some harsher chemicals to clean the buttons. The lettering is faded. I ended up wiping the source button clean. It looks better for now.

I may do the refurbishment in the future, but at least all the sticky stuff is gone. Thanks again.

Anything is better than the look and feel of the soft touch residue, but I'm still surprised that the lettering did in fact fade on some of your buttons. Since they're illuminated, I would've thought the letters are actually the color of the underlying translucent material of the button and the black is painted on as a stencil, like the buttons in the pic below.

At any rate, it looks much improved to me, and I imagine you can only see the faded lettering when the ignition's off and the buttons aren't lit up.
