Cruise Control
2009 XK.
Hi recently my cruise control has stopped working - went for a long run yesterday and got the message on the dash.
Later in the day it worked ok , then today its stopped again.
Thoughts anybody?
Thanks, Simon

I got the amber warning triangle saying cruise not available. I then tried the speed limiter and got the same message.
Reading other posts I checked brake lights - all OK. Yesterday took for a short run - same problem. I stopped the car turned all off and restarted - both problems disappeared.
I wondered if it could be battery related - somehow the fault condition did not clear as the battery charged during driving.
I have charged the battery (Batteries do not seem to last long here - have replaced them on all cars since living in Dubai - never needed to anywhere else in the world)
Will report back with findings.

It won't be the brake lights. There are two switches on the brake pedal. I've been getting the same random message on my VDP, but thought it was related to my bad tire pressure sensor. I guess we'll see after I get my new wheels on this week. I ended up having to replace the switch on the S-Type for the same reason.

Just my thoughts...
I'm guessing your talking about adaptive cruse control, and your car is silver? (The most common color to have this problem.)
There is a TSB for it.

Faults caused by low power on startup don't tend to clear until you power off - the relevant control module has got into a bad state and needs to be rebooted, which doesn't happen until you shut down & start up again. In some cases, you also need to lock the car, because several modules (e.g. the infotainment system) stay powered up for a while after shut down unless the car is locked.

Tonight on the way home did the same thing. When I got home I shut down and restarted with no fault.
Maybe time for a new Battery.
Thanks
This seems to be consistent. Today I started the (British Racing Green) car and got the message. I idled for 10 seconds shut down and restarted. Messages did not appear.

I got a battery (Duracell 100A) (don't laugh - when the guy told me I pictured a giant AA type battery) USD 135 fitted.
Roof needed recal but little else.
Went to the car tonight - started as normal but with no error messages - so far so good

Anyway, I'm glad it's looking like it's sorted.
