Rearward of the left rear wheel well, is a positive post to use for just that purpose (may have a rubber boot over it).
Look under there, you’ll see it. Attach your negative lead to some other part of the chassis.

Yes, you can leave it…assuming that the charger is a ”smart charger” that will not overcharge the battery.
you might want to invest in a CTEK (or similar) battery minder. They charge very slowly to safeguard the battery and the car’s electronics, and will never overcharge.

OR, get an actual battery charger of at least 10 amps. Anything newer than 1980 is smart anyway. Trickle chargers will burn out your battery very quickly.

Put charger on , and used the quick boost start on it , all kinds of lights come and warnings like apply brake , and other warnings on the display but won’t start or even turn over , it seems like it’s looking for everything to run thru cycle and reboot or reset I,m getting flustered, there is lights flashing as I’m charging it as well ,

I really appreciate in put , put charger on and I have a setting on it for a fast charge and trickle , put fast charge all lights come on and horn went off then all kinds of warnings run thru the screen but won’t start nothing , there is some lights still flashing small ones two at the front two at back like my 4 way emergency ones , I put it back on trickle and it’s slowly going up and down amps 6 to 7 amps slowly going up a little , any other things I can try , you think boosting it off my other vechile might work know there is a place to hook up cables .Sorry for long winded question , love the car but at a loss .

You likely need a higher amperage charger. These cars have large batteries and are loaded down with electronics that needs sufficient voltage to run.

As I stated in Post #6, get at least a 10 amp charger and leave it going for 24 hours. Raise your roof, remove old battery and get a new one. Before you install this new battery, Charge it for 24 hours (or so) with a 10+ amp charger.

The flashing lights and sounding horn on the XK is a classic symptom of a dying battery. Charging may work briefly, but you likely need a new *fully charged* battery. These are fabulous cars but they need full battery voltage for the multiple modules - or else they start to display perplexing and worrisome symptoms that can be in any electrical component or path.
