I just asked my upholstery shop to offer 300.00 He turned it down, you're right he has a mold and has decided sell wholesale to repair shops. Apparently he already has an order for 10 sets with this particular upholstery shop. I guess less money per unit and more quanity works better for him. I'm going to need the dash fixed on mine by Summers end but I was hoping to get enough people to show interest so we can buy them for less. I guess I'll just wait. It's 800.00 for the job including the vents but I have no idea what his cost is.
Molds are a investment especially for low run parts. I would assume he has $5-$10K in the mold so he needs to build a lot of parts to ROI his investment. I guess it's lucky he has 10 orders . I would think printing it would be the better way to go provided you already have the printer. That would provide for a lower cost per unit. OK I guess I just saved $100. I wish him luck.

A gentleman was kind enough to send this link. Don't know if it's the same guy but we can watch it together. Here's a set getting bid up fairly quickly. With almost 3 days left, it's going to probably go over my limit but it's just one set with more coming and it looks like he's going to price based on a combination of demand and this sale. We'll see:

Edit: I see he's from Naples so same guy Tom is noting.

Enjoy your vents.
I agree, I won't go over 300.00 dollars. I thought maybe 400.00, I've got a 2012 XKR-S and it kills me to see bubbles on my dash and cracked vents but 300.00 is my limit. I might start whittling my own tomorrow.

He's from my town, apparently he buys several of these cars a month at auction and was tired of bubbled/peeling dashes and cracked defrost vents. I'm told he also makes other parts that are hard to come by for Porsche and Mercedes. I'm also curious to see where his auction goes.

Upholstery person told me he tried printing first, finished product was sub-standard. Think Pringles potato chip is what I'm told. He also sold parts he's made to Tesla so I'm thinking it's not his first rodeo.

I guess he's had a change of heart, and since we're both Air Force veterans I am now the proud owner of both vents for 180 bucks. Thanks for the banter on this thread MOST people were courteous and knowledgeable.

Congrats. Still a bit above my price range but closer. You'll need to let us know how the quality is comparative to new OEM.

Just wondering if any other JLR models use the same vents. Since they're not sold separately, there's no part numbers to compare.

More applications = greater volume = lower price.

I agree that $180 is pretty steep for a couple of pieces of plastic with no moving parts. But ...

The meme speaks volumes, but each and every one of us could have bought a Ford Fusion with a plethora of AutoZone parts readily available for 13.95. Here's my passenger side fresh out of The mold minus trimmed excess plastic.

I have checked numerous JLR and Ford vehicles for the XKR vents and had no luck.... If they are used in any other vehicles I haven’t found them... I even took the time on two different occasions to go to a salvage yard to look at vents that I thought were very close and they were a no go....

I’ve had an ebay search active for probably a couple years now, and no vents looking like these have ever shown up until now.
Just because he got them for $180, doesn’t mean anyone else will.

For the price, and, considering the location, once the vents from Texas Traveler are painted/wrapped they look great. I appreciate that he went out of his way to provide a good piece for no personal profit.

Can't really get a good look but do we assume it is the finished product with just the removal of the flashing to make it complete or is there any other machining work required.

Auction ended, ‘reserve not met’, go figure.
Maybe he’ll price them appropriately, if he relists on ebay.

I would have thought we would have seen a pic of the finished set by now? All we have seen to this point is three different pics of the same right side vent? Whats up with that? Maybe the skeptic in me, but I'm still not buying this is a legit offering. I hope I am proven wrong..

Yeah ended right at my top price point, though $100 per set seems more reasonable. That said, who knows how much he's invested on the mold?

He's not selling retail, he's only selling wholesale. For the skeptics, I said I would have the other side by Monday, but we've got a hurricane on it's way so I'm told probably Wednesday. I will send pics once installed.
