Default Defrost vent on upper dash

Can anyone tell me if the defrost vents on the XF's are the same part as the XK's? Trying to source a passenger side vent and there are many XF's that are parting out at salvage yards, so was wondering if I might be able to get that part from one. looking at pics of XF it looks like it might be, but not sure. Thanks in advance

Aaron

Buy one and check it? They probably aren't very $$$ at a yard. Maybe you could lead the way.

You can also do an on-line parts fiche search to determine whether or not the part numbers for your XK and the XF are the same (interchange). I use Gaudin Jaguar's site (aka "Jaguar-Landrover of Reno). Sometimes small parts are sold only as elements of a complete assembly, which are less likely to interchange. Good luck.

Yes the defrost vents are part of the entire dash assembly. I do not believe anyone should have to buy an entire dash to get one small part off of it. That's why I am looking for alternative sources for part from ebay, salvage yard, ect. If the XF defrost vent is in fact the same vent, at least we would have more potential cars to get this part from. I am going to hopefully have vent from XF in my hands by the end of the week to compare. Reason I am looking is because when I pulled my dash last week to have leather reworked, I cracked the passenger side vent slightly My OCD won't let it go...

A salvage yard won't part it out because Jaguar won't part it out. If someone wants a replacement dash, they would want the dash to include the vents. The F-type being smaller, I'm guessing it's not a fit. We had a discussion earlier on the forum about creating them with a 3D printer but I believe those with 3D printing expertise were confident the material used in the machine wouldn't hold up in the dash. If I had the money, I'd have them scanned, CAD, and machined out of metal. But I'm not a rich man.

Google search and look at the images. That's what I did the other day. X type, S type, XJ and XF are no good.

When I was still Air Force, I needed a bracket to hold a pylon cable inside the wing. The IPB listed it, so I ordered it. That part wasn't available separately, so supply sent the Next Higher Assembly....... an entire left wing. Yeah, I returned it and had Sheet Metal bend one up for me in about fifteen minutes.

I drove over to salvage yard that had part during lunch to get a look at the XF vent. Ranchero50 is correct, No Go.... It was very close but where the vent gets closer to the A pillar the XF part does not widen out like the XK part.. But they were willing to sell it to me separate from the entire dash, so there is hope... LOL

Default Defrost vent on upper dash

I have an 09 XK and am looking for the passenger side defroster vent cover. Have ran the same "traps" as you with no success either. If you find a solution please let me know!!

The vent I am looking for are the ones referenced in this pic in another thread, but if I find a parts car at salvage, I will certainly see about getting any and all parts including dash center speaker grill, front vents and windshield vents.

Oh, THOSE vents. That other thread instigated searching for those vents some time ago, and concluded that they weren't available separately. In fact, I started an active ebay search for any Jaguar vents over a year ago. Every day I get an email with the new listings within that search, and those particular vents have never shown up. So the best shot, as stated above, is to find a wreck that is being parted out. Maybe you'll get lucky and they will sell the vents separately from the whole dash.

Agreed and FWIW, I've talked with several salvage yards and they will only sell the entire dash.

Here's where the last one I saw died:

I found a guy in California at a junk yard that was willing to part with a set for $200.
I just didn't want to pay that much. I had spoken to him on the phone & lost his contact info. Should be easy to find. Google Auto Salvage yards California that specialize in Euro cars. I think 3-4 popped up, give them a call & you should be able to find it. This was about a month ago so he probably still has them. Hope this helps.

Hey gang - I realize I'm jumping on an old thread, but has anyone solved this? I just bought a 2012 XKR and the driver's side vent is missing. Thanks in advance for any help.

Read through this thread to see what I came up with... It's one option, until someone with a 3D printer starts making some, or scavenge the junkyards hoping to find a replacement...

Thanks for the fast response....but I'm looking for the small round vents on the front side of the dash. I'm missing the driver's side one.

Had the left side vent scanned for a 3D printer. Had a guy with a 3D printer make me one. Worked great with one exception - copy was exact duplicate of the "left" side and when I installed the air blows into the cabin not the side window. Not really a problem for me and the dash/vent looks fine.
