You are now talking about collectable cars. They are valued for a different reason and in a different way than cars were discussing up to this point. Nostalgia. Prestige. Exclusivity.

Residual value for consumer cars, and all modern Jaguars, maybe with exception of XJ220, are consumer cars, do not follow this formula. Reliability matters. Maybe in 2070 it will be different for XKs, but are you going to be still alive when Jaguar reliability finally no longer going to be a factor in a valuation of your car?

Got to keep things in perspective.
I’ve lost a crap load more in the market than I will ever lose on this car. So for me, it’s a great investment in my happiness, for now, and in the years to come.

There is one other aspect to the two I have mentioned already.

Lack of manual gearbox.

This cuts off many potential used car buyers at the get go.

Wow, she knew how to extract 10times the value of the car. She used it to become immortal and famous, despite being a magnificent specimen herself.
