So after doing the whole car detail I am not satisfied about one area. The rear deck has some material on it that I can't seem to get the finish I am looking for. I ASSUMED it was leather and cleaned it and treated it with Lexol but after buffing and drying it doesn't seem to have a uniform finish. Is it leather or another material and should I be using Lexol or some vinyl treatment.

 

I think it's vinyl or plastic. Mine looks faded and kind of bad too. I used Armorall on it, but didn't make much difference.

Did you detail the convertible top yet?

 

^^ Aerospace 303 is your ticket, Available at many Ace Hardware stores or more commonly found at any marine hardware store.

 

OK I got a bottle of that stuff so I'll give it a go. As for the top I haven't done it yet because I haven't needed to wash the car yet. When I do that I'll do the top.

 

Buy a gallon of Meguiar's Hyper Dressing D170 and you'll have years of vinyl and plastic protection that can be set at any gloss level you want. Mixes 50-50 with water for neutral shine, or more/less on preference.

 

If the roof cover panel is goofy looking, use a bristle brush on it with some Dawn (normal blue 'cuts grease' type) dish washing liquid in water. Don't overdo the amount or it will run down inside, but scrub the area well and all the old waxes and oils will be removed allowing you to start over with some good protectant. The surface is somewhat textured, so don't ever use a paper tower or other linty cloth on it. You will be sad if you do.
