I love you guys you are always so helpful!
Backstory...left work, didn't hit break pedal so car went into accessory mode. Started it from there, and CEL came on. Drove home, popped the gas cap to check that....I think it was loose so hopefully that is the problem. Also, I did top off my tank after the pump shutoff hit a few times but that was around 75 miles ago. I tightened the gas cap and restarted but the cel is still on. Do you maybe have to drive it a bit to clear the check engine light? Runs never a problem, not running hot etc.Hate to drive with a cel unless I need to to clear the cel. After checking my gas cap I only drove a block.

Thanks for any help! just don't wanna drive her if I'm gonna hurt her

tried the backseat air deflector type thing..didn't really notice a difference. Anyone else notice that? Also, the app that lets you watch your engine temp...do you need to be looking at your phone to use it? Is there an aftermarket guage I can install to see my temp? thank you

I've moved your question from XK8/XKR (1996-2006) to XK/XKR (2006-1014) forum.

Per the CEL most chain auto parts stores can check, reset codes with an OBDii reader. Without knowing the code it's pretty pointless to shotgun repairs and quick 'fixes' that worked in the past.

Yes most guys just have them on their phones and check them periodically. If you want them viewable on you touch screen, first you install this:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...camera-179570/

Then add this:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-camp2-175877/

You need basic wiring skills for the GVIF but flyc2c couldn't have made it any easier. Then you need an android media streamer, These are common video streamers used for watching movies of playing music. The one you want has specific needs to work and I've outlined those requirements in my post. They are plentiful on eBay and can be had for as little as $60.

Once you have it, connect it to you TV and wifi at home, remove all the apps and download Torque Pro from Google Play Store.

GVIF unit can be found here and I would buy it from this supplier:

First off, don't do this anymore.

And +1 on the getting the codes read. Why speculate when the code will tell you where to start looking?

Yeah, top off in modern cars is a definite no-no. It causes havoc in the vent line!

Default obd2

I used the obd at auto zone and yes, it was loose gas cap. Should the cel go off eventually after driving it a bit? The guy at auto zone said on some older cars you have to disconnect the battery to recycle the cel to off. Doesn't disconnecting the battery cause some settings loss?

edit: oh almost forgot....bought one of the hideaway front license plate holders...when the plate is up will it be disrupting airflow and cause a cooling problem?

Thank you,
Jeff

Not sure but I would think it should for that message, since it could be intermittent. Might take 30 miles or so or a certain amount of on off cycles. Again, not sure...

There is a procedure on what is needed after a battery disconnect here.:

Nope, reference hideaway tag. In the lower grill area there are oil coolers on either side. I placed my "hideaway" in the center......not been a problem, at least on my '08.

It will be quickest to reset the cel with the code reader. Without manually clearing it should clear itself after a few drive "drive cycles". A drive cycle is a cold start and X miles of driving with more than an empty tank and less than a full tank of fuel.
