Default Did it step out on me

Yesterday I was out for a short trip (160 miles) of parkway/interstate driving. I was rolling down the road at 70 mph just passing a slower car when behind me came a Toyota moving at around 85. I was half way into my passing and this thing was up my tail pipes. So I hit the go peddle and as I did I could feel the back end wiggle/twitch as the speedo went to 90 in a split second at which time I pulled into the right lane. The Toyota was then about 10 cars back but passed me as I settled back to 70 . I was surprised at the reaction after hitting the gas. Just an FYI

You should get rid of the junk Pilot Super Sports and get something decent that won't kill you. I couldn't stand my PSSs, threw 'em out after 4000 miles.

Don't have them. New Conti's DWS on the rears. Just thought it interesting when I got this wiggle when I punched it. Didn't lose traction just a mild twerking. hahaha

Hi, I'm thinking that it felt must have felt like it was to you; from earlier comments I ***-u-me that you have an R, maybe 4 season tyres are not going to be ideal for you (deep squishy tread compared to a pure hp summer tyre).
If you have different rubber on the front I would suggest being careful if you "enjoy" fast cornering... I'm normally a believer in having the best / grippiest? rubber on the rears.
We are into our 2nd summer with a base 2007 convert, it initially felt nervous in the turns, found fronts same pressure as rears, when I adjusted the fronts down to 2-3psi below the rears, per specs, it felt much happier.(& safer).
Regards to all

My days of spirited driving are over. I basically have 3 ranges which are 30-40 mph normal , 55-60 mph weekend cruising and 70-75 mph for trips. I had to recently replace my OEM Dunlops in the rear due to a flat. They had 12K miles on them and were a little squirrelly . I wanted a soft , quiet and smooth tire so I went with Conti DWS . I still have the OEM Dunlops on the front and will replace them next year. I am running 33 psi fronts and 36 psi rears. The car runs nice and smooth during our trips so at this point it is what we like. We'll see how long they last.

Nah, no matter what tyres you have, the R has more torque than grip. I have 305/30 P-Zeros on mine - still steps out if I nail it.

Wow, I know that they are torquey, but are you saying that if the nannies are turned off the tyres will break loose in the dry at 70mph??
Is it possible that the sensation comes from something moving in the rear suspension?

I drive with the traction on and when I said I felt a wiggle it was like the rear of the car shifted left to right in a split second. Like the suspension shifting but no rubber burned. Now mind you this is still a new experience for me as the most HP I had ever had was my old 340 HP Corvette. What I do know is when you hit the go peddle at 70 it was more like a "launch" instead of accelerating. I was at 90 in a blink so this was a trip to me.

Sounds good, I'm a little "green", certainly there are times when I wish that we had a R, but like you, we are usually just out cruising with the roof down, which has only been up a couple of times this year, it even gets washed with it open...

When I first got mine the tires broke loose at 80 on a dry but probably dusty highway with heavy application of the go pedal with with DSM completely turned off, suprised me but easily controlled.
I'm running Continental DWS and have decided to stay with them all summer too. We don't have the corners in SW michigan to justify more grip as I'm already way above the speed limit before I'm concerned about grip

Even with DSC on, the back of an R will squirm a bit if you floor it and you're not going quite fast enough for the gear it selects, if the car is not quite straight, or if there's any moisture/dust/whatever on the surface. No biggie - DSC not only tells the engine to back off, it will briefly trigger single brakes if necessary to bring the car into line (yaw control) before releasing the throttle again.

When I got my first XKR, a 2011 175 XKR, it was late fall. With the cold weather the car would easily engage the DSC driving in the city. I had to learn how to respect the power. I find driving in dynamic mode and sport using the paddles makes the car very responsive. The XKR feels much more responsive than a GT-R, on the street, because of the high torque and the super charger--no need to spool turbo chargers.

You experienced the poor quality of the XK suspension. Rear springs too damn stiff on all XK models and they've carried it over to the F Type as well. That is the ONLY reason they keep losing comparison tests. They make great drift cars but until they get it right, cross them off my list. Haven't seen one yet at the track...why..they don't handle well in anyone's hands, including seasoned racers (Randy Pobst- for example).
I keep saying it....buy Lotus and learn how to make a proper GT suspension. My Evora is vastly superior handling (with proper tires pressures -again-->Randy Pobst)

I'd hope that a car made in 2102 has better suspension than one made in 2012!
