Default Does your XK always start up on the first try?

I've been noticing lately that my XKR does not always start up on the first try. At first, I thought it was because I didn't drive it that often, but now I drive it almost every day (changed offices and lost my company car!). It seems like maybe 1 in 10 starts it does not start up. It will rev up to 1500 or so and then not catch and then just stall immediately. Usually it starts on the second try.

Only once in the last 2 years has it failed to start on the second try--and that was a weird one because the car had been driven 5 hours earlier. It failed to catch several times and then idled very rough and eventually stalled out, and would not restart until I let it rest for a minute or so.

No check engine light has come up, but I have not yet scanned for codes.

Do your XKs always start up???

No, it did not, but not often enough to get in front of it.

All 3 of our 5.0 Jags start on the first try. No exceptions.

Only once did it not start on the first shot, but that was probably pilot error on my part, as I had recently gotten the car, and probably let up on the start button or brake too soon.

I had this last night. I think I took pressure off the starter button. I'm certainly hoping this was the case...
To the OP, might be worth getting an ECU Scan (or whatever the correct term is) to see if there are any pointers to what the issue is. Hopefully nothing too serious as it seems to always (eventually!) start for you.

Have you cleaned the throttle body? Is the battery fresh, not original? Have you use any fuel conditioners, yet?

I encountered a similar issue back in 2012.

It was intermittent, but frequent. When it finally failed in the hands of the dealership, they found both my key fobs defective and replaced them.

No issues since.
