Default Door lock question

07 XK coupe. For quite some time, the passenger door would open when the car is locked. The alarm (a pathetic "ant ant ant") would engage combined with flashers. Now, the door opens and no alarm or flashers. When I press "lock" on the key fob, I can hear the mechanism engage, but can open the door. Is this a potential actuator issue? Secondly, if so, can the actuator be replaced with removing the door card but without removing the inner metal panel? Thanks in advance for any advice.

If you lock your car and put the Smartkey in your pocket, the door will unlock and open when you pull the handle.

After you use your Smartkey to lock the doors, move the Smartkey at least 10 feet away from your XK and leave it there. Then walk back to your car without your Smartkey and pull the passenger and driver's door handles to open the doors. Neither door should open since you're out of the range of the Smartkey.

Oh, that much I do know! But thank you! I probably will order and replace the actuator. Looks tedious but doable. Now, have to figure out the location of the alarm or consider an aftermarket unit.

The speaker for the alarm is a known issue.
I would swap that out first if it was making that sound. I wouldn’t be surprised if the failure of the speaker disabled the alarm.
Do you have the workshop manual?
