Driver door window going up and down when door opened - not a convertible
I just received a 2010 XK hardtop. It was shipped from another state so I hadn't had a chance to drive it yet.
Should the window go up and down a little bit when opening and closing the door? From what I've read that it's normal for the convertibles but I haven't seen anything about the hardtops.
Thanks

Congrats on the car. I'm in Ashburn too.
You have an X150 and this is the X100 section.
That said, it wouldn't surprise me if the windows dip. Is there a frame around it? If not, I would expect the dip-- I have had several coupes do that.

I've moved your thread to the X150 section

In answer to the original question, YES the window mechanism is designed to lower the window to clear the weatherstripping into which the glass fits. When you close the door the glass rises again into the channel to seal against wind noise.
The first use of this sort of mechanism (I believe) was on the 1961 to 1969 Lincoln Continental convertibles - beautiful, and for their time beautifully engineered cars. The rear door glass dropped to clear when the rear door handle was used (and yes, these were 4 door convertibles with the front and rear doors opening at the centre.
