Default Eng temp

Manual says-very rightly-not to rev a cold engine above 4000rpm.Where can you find the eng temperature (the temperature of the coolant)?

The car is an XKR model 2015.Thank you...

Welcome to the forum Phil1,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to XK/XKR forum. This is the place to post tech questions about your model.

Please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

Welcome Phil. Some of us use an APP to see the water temp. You need a bluetooth adapter to plug into your OBDII port and get an App called Torque Pro . Jaguar seemed to thing that those of us who bought these cars didn't check WT or OP or Volts. They did make sure this was done on the F-Type though.

Thank you jagtoes!I thought I was missing something but I can now stop to try to find an answer in the manual (or by punching the screen...).As you mention,it's a bit strange that Jaguar never found the necessity to provide that info through so many years of evolution.I am considering purchasing the device you refer to.Thank you for your time!Phil. (And Merry Christmas!)

Phil1,
While we're at it, you'll not find a dipstick with which to check your oil! You must check it on your message center after turning the car off for at least 5 minutes. I have not been successful even after 20 minutes, so I check it in the mornings before I first start the car. Enjoy your new car.

Hello Tberg!Thank you for this valuable info (didn't know).
Coming back to the topic of eng temp,I am considering purchasing the 'Torque Pro' device mentioned earlier but in the meantime, would anyone have an idea of how long it takes for the engine to come to temperature?I guess one of the factor would be the outside temperature but just a rough idea perhaps?Thank you to all and Merry Christmas!(

Too many variables to give a finite 'X' number of minutes or miles value. The Jag manuals tend to be rather conservative and contain quite a few motherhood statements. The idea is just to use some common sense, no different than any other vehicle.

Just to be safe, give it about 10 minutes of driving at low RPMs, not exceeding 3000 and no heavy applications of the throttle. I always followed the slow and gradual warm up procedures in my street and race cars and never had any engine failures even though I love to spend lots of time near redline, once both the coolant and the oils are hot.

I checked this the other day as I was going for a ride. Temp in the garage was 50*F and after 6 minutes the car was at 100*F. At 10 minutes it was at 150*F and after 13 minutes it was at 199*F at which time the thermostat opened and it dropped to 194.8*F . This was measured using my Torque Pro. Car is a 2012 XKR Convert.

It looks to me that 10 min was a sound estimation, confirmed by the numbers. So thank you to you both (Mikey and axr6)!Phil

Hello everyone!Coming back to that old thread...
I am thinking of purchasing an OBD2 ELM237 wifi version 2.1 (the last?) but I am taken away by the number of products offered.
I read some wouldn't work...any advice?
Thank you!
Phil

Car is xkr 2014

Under the dash , left of the steering column . Get a mirror and a light and look under there.

Hello Jagtoes....I wondered if you had an OBD yourself.
Any model-brand you could recommend?
Thank you!

Phil

All of the units in this thread have been tested and work:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/g...-%2A%2A-33347/

I personally bough the
BAFX BAFX
off amazon and use the Torque app. Works fine. The only thing is it's quite large if you want to keep it installed. One of the shorter ones might be a better option.

Just a point to mention - if I recall correctly, the 5.0 engine was noted for its fast warm up in discussions when it was released. I believe it's down to the relatively low coolant volume in the jacket around the cylinders. So, don't worry too much. I'd recommend against doing burnouts in the driveway immediately after startup, but beyond that, you should be fine unless you'e a complete hooligan.

Sorry to interfere here, but it's absolutely rediculous that our close to 100K cars need to go to these lengths to find out if our cars are going to overheat and destroy the engines! Just think about it. It's not acceptable. But they are designed this way.. No temp gauges (As F TYPE now have)..just over heat messages.. Disgusting.. I hate Jaguar's customer service.. Will never get another Jaguar in this life time.. Not Acceptable.
