Entertainment System Interchangability
Got a question - When I purchased my 2015 XK Coupe last year, I was surprised it did not have a 5 CD changer, only a single CD.
Earlier models did have a 5 CD changer, correct?
Can I replace my single CD unit with a 5 CD changer (plug and play)?

Huh, I thought every one was a six-disk. You do know there's only one slot for inserting every disk, right? Have you selected CD on your Input device? There should be six disk indicators, with only the ones actually holding something available.
Also, which helps a LOT, you can put like 200 .mp3 files on a single disk, they will play. Do NOT convert to "CD" though, they have to be .mp3 files. Six X 200 = a LOT of tracks.

Yea, I had expected a 5 (or more) CD capability as well. When I purchased the car, I went to my local Jag dealer. They printed out the car's service history and Build Sheet. The Build Sheet indicates an In-Dash Single CD Player. In the car, CD changer will accept only 1 CD. Not a big deal as I have a bunch of music on a USB drive . . .
I looked back at the MY2015 brochures - no mention of a 5 CD changer. My guess is Jag put in a less expensive Single Cd player as music was moving away from the CD format. Would still be curious if I can switch it out with a multiple disc player.
My 2015 only has a single CD changer as well. Had the same questions as the OP. I carry a small book of old CDs for nostalgia. Dug them out of a box that hadn't seen daylight in probably 10 years. Bought the Bovee 1000. It's the best accessory I've ever bought.

Had no idea this was even a thing.
Just learned a ton… was able to find the options:
2006-2009:
Alpine 6-CD in-dash changer (with cassette on some early cars) / Optional Bowers & Wilkins with 6-CD | This was the classic luxury setup Jaguar had been using since the X100 XK. Most cars left the factory with the 6-CD unit.
2009–2011 (mid-cycle refresh):
Still mostly 6-CD Alpine units / Bowers & Wilkins still 6-CD. 6-CD remained dominant, but Jaguar started offering a single-CD “Premium Sound” package on some lower-spec cars in certain markets.
2011–2012 facelift (introduced late 2010):
New touchscreen system (JaguarDrive Touch) – single-CD slot only / Bowers & Wilkins upgraded to single-CD + hard-drive storage (some markets). Major reason: In-dash 6-CD mechanisms were becoming obsolete and expensive to manufacture. Jaguar switched to a modern touchscreen head unit that physically could not accommodate a 6-CD changer. The new system offered USB/iPod integration and (on Portfolio/Speed/Black Pack cars) a 30 GB hard drive for ripping CDs, effectively replacing the need for a multi-CD changer.
2013–2014 (final years):
Single-CD touchscreen standard (many cars had no CD player at all if equipped with the top Bowers & Wilkins system). Bowers & Wilkins system often deleted the CD slot entirely in favor of HDD, USB, and Bluetooth audio streaming. By this point almost no customers were using CD changers anymore. Jaguar (and the entire industry) was dropping physical CD mechanisms entirely. Many late XKR-S and final-edition cars have no CD player whatsoever – only digital sources.
OK, 2 things I just learned and I’ve never seen brought up in these forums.
- Single CD (until this thread)
- Hard Drive for ripping CDs (my old Odyssey had this)
It does say “certain markets” which could be very limited.
I wonder how it was implemented and what markets got it?
Post 6-CD changer, various JLR models, XF and F-Type went to the IAM 2.1, level 3 by Alpine.
This Integrated Audio Module (2.1/L3) has one CD but has Bluetooth and includes navigation on a hard drive or SSD. Possibly satellite and HD radio? A different touch screen is also used.
I was looking into an IAM 2.1, Level 3 upgrade for the XK and did not realize that the 6-CD went missing in 2012.
However, a review of part catalogs and wiring diagrams for the 2012+ XK indicate the use of a single-CD player, but separate modules for Bluetooth, navigation, satellite radio and In Band-On Channel (HD radio) are retained/still required. (IAM 2.1, Level 1?) Please confirm if you know.
I would have thought that the XK/R would go the path of the XF, using the more integrated audio module for lower total cost. But that does not appear to be the case.
Maybe a lack of design resources and pressing deadlines contrasted with increased cost/declining benefit ratio for the 6-CD unit.
If anyone has further information, please share.

My rovershave the single slot CD/DVD player. However its used as a means to copy the media to the internal hard drive... which also stores the nav data. Its interesting to learn this is not the case in the jags.
According to my spec sheet it’s a 2013MY with black pack and has a BW 6xcd player. No digital options afaik. I installed a Bovee 1000 but it’s a bit annoying that you have to have one track preinstalled on Apple Music before you can play Spotify. Unfortunately it starts as soon as I get in the car so I am totally sick of Mariah Carey Christmas song! lol
