OK, like me, I'm sure many of you with '07 model vehicles know that the 4 year factory warranty expires this year. I have looked at a couple of extended warranties - between $4500 and $6500. These would extend the warranty between 4-6 years and up to another 60,000 miles (I currently have 38,000 miles on mine).

Anything specific that you who have purchased an extended warranty would advise??

I have purchased extended warranties with all of the Jags I have purchased.

I currently have two Jags under extended warranty. One was $4875 with zero deductible on my wife's VDP, and my 07 has one with a $200 deductible that was $4085. Both cover the cars through 100K miles or 5 years which ever comes first. My 02 XKR 100 warranty ran out late last year.

Each year, I take the cars to a trusted mechanic and have them checked out with a fine tooth comb from head to stern. I do this for two reasons: 1) To catch problems and fix them before they become bigger problems, and 2) to get as much out of that additional ~$5K as possible.

Last September they replaced the lower control arms and some other things on my wife's VDP - I think the total was around $2400. She has about 3 years/36K miles left on the warranty. So as I see it, I have to get another $2400 or so and I will have gotten my monies worth out of the warranty.

I am not wishing for problems, but I *use* the warranty. Many people just sit back and wait and are not proactive with using a warranty. My mechanic is not trying to rip the warranty company off, but anything that that is a problem and can be covered under the warranty is fixed/replaced.

 

I recently picked up a 07 xkr conv. with around 20k miles. The warranty to extend it for 5 years and an additional 60k miles was around 3500. It carries a $100 deductible and was sold to me by the local jaguar dealership. Haven't used it yet so no opinion on value/service to offer.

I've used the GMPP for over a decade on my GM cars and was surprised to learn they will cover any car. But I am leaning towards The Auto Warranty Agency | Extended Warranties so I can get the 5 year/100K $50 deductible warranty, they have 12/18 month ZERO percent financing and will know $200 of the price for a military discount, so I'm looking at around $3200.

My warranty runs out on August 9th and I'm beginning to look for an extended warranty that will replace it. My concern is the fine print. What do they cover, what do they not cover? I've heard horror stories about warranties that take your money gladly but put up all kinds of technicalities to keep from paying anything out. Thoughts?

 

Call Costco to see if they offer it in your state. We're in Oregon and got a 60,000 mile warranty for our Jag XK 07 with 16,600 miles on it. Repairs are a $100 deductible and the plan was only $2600 (I had earlier made an error in how much I paid). Still, it's the best plan around and it's backed by Costco who stands behind everything. We searched all over and this one won hands down.

 

Thanks canuken. I'll check them out. I was at Jaguar yesterday and they have a plan from Fidelity that looked pretty good too. anybody know anything about them?

 

Fidelity is the one I went with form the dealer as well. They actually recommended it over the jag select. The coverage difference was almost identical except tow and car rental were reimbursement instead of just billed direct to the warranty company.

Didn't look at the costco option so you may want to compare since it is a bit cheaper.
