Fifth Gear
For those in the UK on this coming Monday @8pm Discovery Channel - Fifth Gear are broadcasting a review on my 2006 XK Coupe in their Alternatives to an Aston Martin film - slightly nervous as to what Jonny concludes but I think he liked it! Cheers to all at Fifth Gear for a great and informing day out.
PS. Think it is also shown in the US on the Velocity Channel

Hmmm, I don't see it on my ATTUVERSE, Channel 1104, Velocity channel. But I do see Aston Martin Vanquish at 9pm tonight episode 4 and what looks like a repeat on Sat and Sunday and the next thing I see is on the 12th where they have the McClaren 12C spider and ...............oooops, tomorrow the Jaguar F-Type at 11am central time. Gotta watch that one.
Frankly I was unaware of Fifth Gear being available on ATTUVERSE. Thank you.

Saw it tonight! (Was on the Vanquish episode) Not a lot said except it is a good buy.
Funny they didn't point out the AC leaking drain issue, which is about all our cars are known for....
Still must be pretty sweet to have your car used for the show! Did you get compensation? (Autographed DVD of the episode or such?)

I just finished watching the episode.
Good looking ride you got there!
May I ask how you manage to get your car on 5th gear?
Also what is everybody's input on that 'tip" to change out transmission fluid?
maybe one of them forums mechanics can chime in on that.
Thanks guys,
Dag

Looks like you guys in the US have got to see the episode prior to me in the UK! Thank goodness it seems to have gone down well.
All came about following a reply to a call for help from the 5th Gear producers on the Jaguarforum.co.uk looking for a 2006/7 XK. They were all very friendly and covered all expenses/hotel. Took a whole day though just to film the 10 minute article. It was though interesting to see the car up on the ramp and reassuring to know it was in perfect condition!

That is not so particular to XK or XJ, but any car using the same ZF transmissions. Change the pan-filter-oil is a good advice and much cheaper than replacing the transmission. At what mileage to do it, is up for debate, but often the pan will start leaking at some point.

In reference to the trasmission fluid: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ce-more-55546/
I attached a file showing how to check or refill the transmission.
I had a clock spring replaced by my dealer a week ago. After they finished I asked what it cost to remove and replace the transmission fluid and filter. I got some talk about how I could get this that and the other replaced/changed at 90K but no mention of the transmission fluid. I asked her "can you replace the transmission fluid and filter?". The answer was that they only did what she just mentioned. So my conclusion is............I was not communicating very well with her and I'll try another time to ask the same question.
Cost me 198 bucks for the clockspring (cancelation Module) and labor 270 bucks.
I installed a new cruise control module myself and had them calibrate it for a cost of 270 for the calibration (that does not include the price of the cruise control module FYI).
Both fixes worked out ok so far over that last few hundred miles.
There's a cockup in that Fifth Gear episode if my memory serves. They showed on screen a view of the XK and superimposed on the screen was the original price and the price they paid for a used one. Unfortunatley they showed it as XJ instead of XK. When talking about it they did use the XK word(?) though.
While completly off topic: I saw a Mercedes CLA today and although I'd never buy one, it looked pretty good for what it is and the part I liked most was, what I suppose was the screen for the Nav unit was up high near the top of the dash where one could look at it without looking DOWN in the car to view the screen. I ASSUMED that was the nav screen. It could be another thing like a rear view camera screen? Got me.
FYI: there is a video on YOUTUBE of a guy changing out the transmission fluid on a JAG.

segment after 23 min mark... ceers
PS. 15t Pounds... that is crazy good value...
They should have spent more time focusing on the XK rater than the 850.. Stragely, last time they had a 8 series on the show, they said that the 840 was a better car... Anyway great PR for the Jag
