Default First Service (15k miles)

So in the 6 months I've had my 2013 XKR, I've added 5k miles and am at the first scheduled maintenance interval. Called two dealers and two indies for prices and had quotes all over the map. First indie was in the neighborhood of $800 for inspection, oil/filter change, brake fluid flush, pollen filter, and air filter change. Second indie said only thing needed besides the inspection checklist was an oil/filter change and pollen filter for $300 total (less $100 if I did pollen filter myself). First dealer said inspection and oil change only for $300, and second dealer said $548 for oil change, pollen filter, and seat filters only (they said they preferred to go by age rather than mileage and seat filters should be changed).

Jag service booklet says brake fluid flush every two years regardless of mileage, but only the first indy seemed to think it was necessary.

I'm leaning towards changing the cabin filter only myself and just having the second indie do the inspection checklist and oil change. Oil was changed by the dealer in September a couple months before I bought it, and I think that's all that's been done to the car besides changing the rear tires. What would you guys recommend? I mainly just want to make sure I do all necessary scheduled maintenance to avoid any issues in the event I have to make a claim at some point on the extended warranty.

Are you wearing a 'rape me' hat or something.
Those are eye-watering prices.

Just go for a $120 oil change.

You dont need a pollen filter, nor seat filter, nor inspection.
The car is bard new for all logical purposes.

You will soon need a brake flush, but just ask others here what that should cost.

Ha! That's pretty much what I was thinking. Just wanted to field opinions. But $200 seems reasonable enough to me to have the second indie do the oil change and run through the checklist so I can have it documented for warranty purposes. As far as the pollen filter goes, it does seem almost pointless given that I mostly drive with the top down anyway.

Wait until September (one year from last oil change) and do that. The seat filters are easy to check/clean or replace if needed. There is a filter for a Lincoln that costs much less than the same Jag part. If the brakes have not been flushed that should probably be done now.

Dont go to an indie- its not worth the risk in your situation.

You need your vehicle history to say it was serviced at Jaguar while it was young.

Indie will not have the right oil and you wont be building a relationship with the warranty dept.

Everyone bargains on the price of a car, they never think to do the same in the service dept.

When I had my 30k service I called my closest dealer (who I like and has been good) and they quoted an $800 service. All the stuff you listed. I simply wanted an oil change, I bought the car a year earlier as a CPO so all the fluids were up to date. When I told the adviser I thought his list was excessive he got a bit blustery about the fact that this is a premium car that requires premium attention. As he said, most people just give him the keys and do what is necessary...I did not like the implication that I am neglectful of my car by not following his prescribed services. I don't care how stupid other people are, I am not an idiot.

I called the dealer I bought the car from, which is 25 miles from my house as opposed to the first dealer which is 3 miles from my crib, and they gave me a quote to change the oil by itself with no grief or guilt. I simply went to them and had my oil changed for $140.

I don't blame the first dealer for their policy, I blame all the people that enable this mentality by not questioning what they are told. I see it on here all the time, folks that have an expectation that a Jaguar is somehow more than it is, a car.

I blame society for becoming less and less self-reliant. Even the little stuff like changing wiper blades .Which in turn signals the purveyors that we have more money than sense.

The Dealers do a complimentary check on the entire vehicle which includes some of the inspection items you would be charged for. $100 for a cabin filter is funny. It takes about 10 seconds to change it. I had Plano Jag do the oil/fliter and the free inspection for $197. Hurry up if you go there, they are moving to Grapevine soon, then we gots to go to Dallas.....

↑ I agree 100%. I also value having them inspect the vehicle. In addition, I would also change out/inspect the pollen filter (either by you or the dealer).

Trying to locate the seat filter number from Lincoln that works with our cars?

I'd do a brake fluid change every other year. Use your judgement on the seat filters. Pollen filter you can tackle yourself. Air filter is tricky on this car, but I have read some thread that make it sound like it can be done without pulling the wheels off...

On 2013, unless you have service history, you are due for brake fluid change. Also consider engine coolant, engine air intake filter, and transmission fluid and filter changes.

Do you absolutely have to have anything other than engine oil and filter done? Not really. However, long-term benefits of proper maintenance are reduction in repair costs. If you going to hand-on to the car for 5+ years it pays to maintain the car.

Speak for yourself, I regularly change my own blinker fluid.

Hey Sin,
you are the odd man out. I noticed on the f-type forum that some of the 'younguns' have no clue. I saw a guy post an instructional video how to change oil with Walmart bought Mobil1 oil.

Too funny.

Well, it isn't going to kill the engine, however I won't be lining up to buy that car used.

----

Have you seen this thread with XF engine tear-down due to spun bearing?

At only 85K this is how intake valves and ports look like due to DI. To me, this looks like a problem. Imagine how much worse already bad sludge would be if it was neglected and off-spec oil used.
