Default Floating display head unit?

Has anyone tried a floating display head unit like Sony XAV-AX8500 integration + Helix DSP on 5.0 cars (mine is 2012 XK)?
Concerned with retaining 100% of OEM head unit functionality while improving screen quality, size, and placement.
Thinking this will bring the screen forward from its recessed position allowing for larger size without obscuring the manual controls.
Critical considerations include:
-Custom mounting
-MOST integration
-CANBUS retention
-Careful positioning
-Possible HVAC adaptation
-OEM settings menu

you might as well look at these.

They've continued to improve functionality and I think lack only two things from OEM (someone check me) Valet function is gone. The ability to cancel a DTC was never developed.

What you'r asking for can probably be done if you had the code that was used to integrate the can bus with MOST network. @Rhys Morgan did some development of his own.

I personally don't think screen size is the issue. I would like to see a capacitive touchscreen vs Resistive as they're brighter. The current screen is set back by design I think. Cuts down on the glare.

The largest single problem why I will never use that "Tesla" style screen.

You can just load the torque app on the unit and use it to clear the code. easy peasy.

Naw, the Center Dash indicator is the thing. Like, TPMS fail and all those things that are in your face while you're driving, between the gauges.

Default Sony XAV AX8500 10.1

This likely allows me to keep closer to OEM and avoid full Tesla type unit while keeping Power, Hazard, and Home Buttons along with all OEM manual controls below the Power, Hazard, and Home buttons. Also should improve sound, allow CarPlay, and allow app for viewing much needed gauges, battery, coolant…
Due to our complex cars, likely need to keep OEM unit powered somewhere in the dash to allow push through of the OEM vehicle screens.
main considerations remaining:
  • MOST interface fiber-optic audio network
  • CAN-bus integration module
  • factory climate/menu integration
  • factory amp logic
  • steering wheel controls routed through Jaguar modules
  • custom fascia/fabrication
  • retained OEM modules hidden behind dash

there are risks which keep Mr 12 Volt as a safe choice.
In an Ideal world, Mr 12 V with larger screen.
