Default X250 android head unit in X150

There are already several "Tesla style" head unit threads in the X150 department,
since this is about investigating if the X250 7" android head unit is an option for the X150, I made a new thread, avoiding to pollute the existing threads.

For the X250, Android head units in size of 7" are available, I saw a video made by Hunnenkoenig where it is possible to select "XK" as car type.
Choosing a 7" unit is preferred by me above the big 12" portrait screen, which will (presumably) preserve the hardware button functions,
keeping the oem style, and probably will still be visible while using polarized sunglasses. It may even fit the stock bezel. If not, it's not too hard to fabricate a custom bezel.

Link to the XF X250 head unit thread:

Link to one of the 7" unit sellers:

Video of Hunnenkoenig (he's got several about this topic):
At 10:25 a car type selection possibility of "XK" is visible.

I wondered the same Cabrio Bob. I believe I asked them once before and they said no, but I sent them another message today. Doesn't mean it won't because most sellers just view the dash. I'll post their response when I get one.

Very very interesting. Was about to install a GVIF + Raspberry Pi solution for Android Auto which I've used before, as not so much of a fan of the larger Tesla screen. This looks cool though.

Maybe I'll just go buy an AM DB13 and be done with all this silliness.

Thanks for the info, that's perfect.

I've sent the ali seller of your device a message:
I have seen in the settings of this device, the car type Jaguar XK can be selected. Which years jaguar XK are supported? Can you supply the Can bus decoder for the XK with it? Will there be a button for steering wheel heating on the screen? Thanks in advance.
The answer I got was of course:
hello ear friend, Good morning. for your Jaguar XK, we have Tesla, send you link.

That device is probably gonna work, but the CANbus decoder might be vehicle-specific.
Also from your video:

Then you have to ask Jaguar if the Canbus is the same in the FX and the XK and if they say yes, then you know it will work.

You could also ask somebody who bought the Tesla version for the XK to show his decoder what it says.

I would not trust the answer!
If they were the same why would it not say XF/XK?
Ali seller just wants to sell.
I could be wrong though.............
Only one way to find out!

The only response I've gotten from 2 suppliers was a request for a picture of the dash. They don't understand the question so Cabrio Bob got further than I did. What was the vendor you contacted Cabrio Bob?

On my X150, I selected the XF and there was no change to my settings fwiw. Question I have is regarding the wired connections. Are the connections wired the same in the XF as the XK? I can't tell from the wiring diagrams and can't tell from the pics if the plugs (connectors) are the same. The wire colors are obviously different but that doesn't mean they aren't wired the same.

If I had some confidence in the wiring, I'd consider it

I contacted this seller:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001972983631.html
that is the same seller as Hunnenkoenig ordered his unit from.

Looking at pictures of disassembled dash parts I see that there are some differences how the units are mounted,
the XF has the unit mounted to the dash with 4 screws, the XK has the unit mounted to the bezel with 2 screws.

The physical mounting points would not deter me from installing this unit IF it worked as advertised. Moving brackets and braces around is super-simple.
It just has to work is all. The rest is always doable.

agreed, mounting is a non issue. In fact most of the units I've had don't use the front mount on the X150, they use 4 screws in the side. Some units don't even have those front mounts The unit will fit in the X150 slot, it can work.

Also, trying to find some old instruction from Cambo on the IAM (CD Changer) when I upgraded my base sound system to premium. He gave me some part numbers and if I recall, some were also used in XF. If I'm right, then it should be plug and play, perhaps. I'm still studying the wiring diagrams. A little help would be appreciated.

If all the decoder is doing is decoding the amp, then another non issue imo, and explains why those without an amp have to hard wire their speakers.

The lack of a heated steering wheel is a non starter for me in this climate. Seems to be there on the larger XF screens but not the small ones. There isn't one pictured in the listing either.

I won't clog Bob's thread up anymore unless I can get an answer on steering wheel and the CD changer, lest this becomes another monster thread.

Don't you already have the larger Tesla style screen installed? Are you not happy with the large screen? What problems are you having with the larger screen?
