Since Sean is using the Tesla style harness, that may be the reason the hardware button doesn't work. With Tesla units these hardware buttons are discarded.
Sean did you try the hazard lights button? This should still work, it is mandatory in many countries.
yes hazard button worked fine with the 7 inch because I presume I plugged the integrated control panel connector into the OEM unit. There are differences how the ICM connector (green plug) are wired. On the XK, the 3 wires go to the can bus. On the XF harness, one of the wires goes into the power source me thinks. Still looking at the wiring diagrams but the integrated control panel connector (the one that also has the flasher signal) isn't used in the XF based on one of hunnenkoenig's final install video.
Primer - if you're not interested in the aftermarket Chinese replacement screens this will bore you more than it's boring me now:-)
You can see my video of the unit installed on the previous page. It took me awhile in my spare time but I've managed to map out the wiring for both the Tesla 12 inch screen for the XK and the smaller 7 inch aftermarket screen for the XF. They are similar. Thanks again to somenavyguy for sharing the PDF.
Here is where I'm lost. In using the small screen with the XK harness, can bus decoder, head unit replacement, I still needed to connect the control panel connector back in to to OEM unit at the base, because - hazard lights. What's odd to me and shown in one of videos in this thread is that the following works fine
Flashers - Yellow Air bag light - Auto recirculate lights up in the lower part of the OEM control panel.
I tested voltage on the can bus + and can bus - and they are reading the same voltage as the ICM (green connector)
I also have continuity to ground and battery power at the OEM connector -
None of the other controls work hwever(volume, fan speed, source, temp up/down)
Now these work on the XF which is what the unit is intended for, using the XF can bus and harness and the control panel connector on the XF isn't used.
So my question. Is this simply a case of the CANbus decoder for the XK (Tesla style) is coded to ignore the buttons, or maybe better put, the XF decoders are coded to include button operation? I know Carlos suggested the buttons were controlled by the green connector but I don't think so.
If so, I'm stuck as I can't get the unit to light up using the XF harness/ can bus decoder so I can't even see any settings to change. Even if I could, I don't have the skills to modify can bus code but regardless, I would appreciate input. See the diagrams below.
Note there are 2 additional connectors on the XF harness that apply to later model years. One replicates the green plug (ICM connector.). I don't know what the other one does but the wiring is independent from the rest of the unit. Other than that, two wire color changes On the 7 inch screen - note on the right, the control panel remains connected and the white connector doesn't exist as it the flasher button and resistor attached to the large screen fascia.
Has anybody been in contact with the company who sells/makes both the XK tesla style and the XF unit and asked if they could reprogram the XF unit to work in the XK? Don't think that's so hard to do for them and they can sell alot more units!:-)

I have and they've indicated that there is little interest to do it. They're not looking to even update the current software of the Tesla style units for the X150 or the X250 10" and 7" and they're aware of the bugs in each. Bigger markets in other makes and models I guess. The frustrating part is that they won't send you the software to repair. I understand why. but fix it or give it to me so I can would be my wish. My issues are a trade off of OEM limitations and I can live with them either way. Always on the lookout for the next best thing to come along.
Looks like the XF 7" unit isn't compatible with the XK although the option to choose XK is there, unless the supplier sends a dedicated XK 7" harness (which probably doesn't exist).
I contacted an Alibaba supplier with the following comments:
A couple of days ago someone ordered this multimedia radio from you, and it was for a Jaguar XK, not XF. This person had it ordered with an additional Can Bus Decoder for the XK.
Furthermore, I received a picture with how the screen is layout, and saw that the screen brackets are different compared to your offering.
This device you are selling is under discussion on www.jaguarforums.com, where some bugs are described such as:
- plugging in the can bus decoder results in chinese characters on the display behind the steering wheel,
- people who own a XF can't seem to enable the steering wheel heater button on the main screen. Selecting XK in the settings this problem is solved (but other problems arise).
The answer I received was:
hello friends
yes, someone ordered xf screen for xk before
and what you say is correct
so you want to buy our radio for your car ?
So looks like they are only interested in selling without any after sales support.
I have had much the same reaction from Asvegen where I purchased one of their 12" units. Their responses to after sales inquiries is abysmal at best. My experience with them has been unsatisfactory to date. When and if I get the matter resolved I will be more forthcoming.
Hopefully someome can figure out the harness, I have no interest in that Tesla monstrosity but would love an OEM looking unit with AA/Carplay compatibiliy.

Mine has CarPlay and Android Auto. I installed the kit I purchased from Cambo, a moderator on this forum. Not difficult, took about 3 hours. Instructions and support are exceptional. You need to have aux input activated via SDD and you are good to go. I got the wireless version and it’s great...
