So far I've changed all the control arms, upper and lower and the sway bar end links. I've had it at two shops and no one can seem to find where the clunk on both sides is coming from. I've read all the posts in the forums and different solutions appear but none have resolved my issue. And the struts are fine according to both shops 69,000 MI. Can anyone tell me about this 2008 XK.
Did you check the control arm mounting bushings?
Also, someone somewhere found a loose brake caliper making his clunk.
I changed the entire part, bushings and all for all six control arms. The clunk is on both sides. I had a loose caliper clunk on my AllRoad before, but it was only on one side.
My “clunk” was due to a broken suspension spring and worn isolator. What interested me was the fact that the spring broke in a location where ride height was not affected.
of course, I have no idea of your particular situation as I’m not there to investigate.
Finally got to the bottom of the clunk I had been searching for in the front end it very much sounded like a stabilizer link rod however it was the bumpstop in the shock (upper metal mount had separated ) The upper mount had separated

Hello,
I know this is a couple years old now, but I also have a phantom clunk, that happens when turning over uneven surfaces, like turn into a sloped driveway or entry way, was this when you noticed the noise mostly? I get it also under extreme sharp cornering at speeds over what would be considered normal by some.
the sway bar is under load in those situations...maybe a sb bushing is going away?

Gotta get it on a body lift, then take a big ole pry bar to every joint.

Possible and this one is easy enough to eliminate. Disconnect the sway bar at the links and zip tie the links out of the way of the suspension. Drive around a few blocks to replicate the current noise. If the noise is gone, SB bushes and or links are the problem. If the noise is still there, look elsewhere. No need to drive fast and crazy to test this and this is useful if one doesn't have a lift.
If it's me, I would do what CeeJay suggests as it's the fastest way to identify the problem.
Thanks for the replies, I wish I had access to a lift, I think I'll try unhooking the sway bar and checking , I can at least rule that out. Also I was looking around for front struts and see they are very hard to find.
Again Thanks.

This is one of the noises I get in my car turning into my driveway. It's super low speed but sharp right turn with a somewhat steep angle (Yay Brooklyn!). Gonna worry about it more next spring as the car is going in to winter storage in about a month.
