I am going to have to replace front brake pads and rotors on 2010 xk soon. would like to get ceramic pads as recommended by bocatrip from RockAuto. Would like to get rotors from them also, they have a few choices, I will have my INDY install them, any suggestions as to which rotors would be best choice. I am not a hard driver, drive car almost daily. thanks

I guess I am a bit surprised so what is your determining factor. Is it due to them being warped or are they under the thickness limit. What kind of mileage do you have on them. Just trying to get a little future information. ThanksOriginally Posted by bobdr1

I looked long and hard for quality third party rotors and they don't exist. You can have Spires built you some custom fixed AP rotors on an aluminium hub but they are around 2k a pair. They also have some slotted stock rotors available. If your just driving to work and back and are not aggressive, the stock rotors are more then adequate.

car has 25k on it, front pads are almost gone and need replaced, rotors are grooved and told that they do not turn they rotors and will need to be replaced when they replace pads, getting ceramic pads. I know nothing about rotors, there are a few choices at rockauto.com, none of them that expensive, not sure what I need? thanks again

All four of my rotors were warped after less than 5,000 total miles on the car. The service manager told me this was common as the rust transfer is a factor after the car sits for so long. I had all 4 replaced and was able to start out with fresh rotors and ceramic pads.

Thats not really warping but pad material being left on the rotor, which causes the rotor to have uneven friction surfaces. This makes it feel as though the rotor is actually warped and brakes to shutter.

Might be, but new rotors were a better choice than resurfacing the old rotors.

The dealer replaced them under factory warranty as being defective. My car only had 4800 miles at the time.

Would suggest that the most economical method would be to drive the car and do a series of emergency stops (making sure nobody is travelling behind you) - this will normally clean up rotors that have some corrosion. If that fixes the problem then you only need to replace the pads Originally Posted by bocatrip

My XK will stand for a few weeks and a few rapid stops cleans the rotors quite quickly.
