Default Fuel consumption when using the A/C

I had a little trip to make today in my 08 XKR and it was cool enough not to need the A/C on the way out. I noticed that the fuel consumption for the trip out was ~26 mpg. When it was time to come home, I did need the A/C. The ride home is also a little uphill but the mileage plummeted to barely 20mpg.

Has anyone else noticed such a big difference? I know the XKR has a killer A/C system so maybe this is the price you pay.

agentorange,

I've noted a big difference in city only driving, too. With the AC on, I got 11-14 mpg depending on how aggressively I drove. Now that it's gotten cooler, I drive with the A/C off and get 15-16 mpg with a light foot. Probably would be even better if the Atlanta area wasn't so hilly, but I guess the uphills and downhills even out.

MPG was the last reason I bought my XKR. Correct that - it wasn't even a consideration!

Stuart
