Exclamation Fuel filler cap 2008 XKR

2008 XKR Portfolio has amber warning in dash "Check Fuel Filler Cap". Owner's manual says, "check that the cap is correctly closed". Gas flap on car says to close cap and turn 3 clicks. Having done that I took a clean cloth and wiped down all surfaces of cap, flap and opening. Same result. Car runs fine, but amber dash message is an annoyance. What's the fix?
I can clear the warning from the audio screen, but need to do it every time I start the car---nuisance!

The same thing happened to me years ago. It's time for a new cap. I tried everything I could think of, but couldn't fix my old cap.

Good luck!

For a leaking EVAP check, it can take up to 200 miles to complete a self-retest.

To check, you would need to reset the code (do a hard reset, or disconnect the battery for a few minutes) and wait the possible 50-200 miles for all the tests to be performed. No lights or warnings until something would fail, which may be never if the problem was remedied.
