Glove Box Lock 07 XK

The door can be opened by pushing the button if it is not locked; I suspect that you are either inadvertently relocking the box when you remove the key from the lock OR, more likely it can also be that you have the VALET mode activated - this is controlled by a setting on the touch-screen; go to VEHICLE, then SECURITY, the VALET MODE. This requires a 4 digit PIN - if the previous owner has set this with his own PIN then this must be cancelled so that the glove box will open without the key. The screen tells you that the VALET is either OFF or ON. You might have to have your dealer reprogram this to OFF if a previous-owner PIN has been used.
In any case this is not a defect with the car.

If you had Valet mode engaged, you wouldn't be able to open the luggage hatch or operate a lot of the touchscreen functions either. Assuming that isn't the case, it's possible that there's something wrong with the glove compartment lock, and it's stuck in Valet position even though Valet mode is not active.

The 2006+ XK valet mode is different (you put a PIN into the touchscreen), but if the X350 is like the XK8 where you have the green valet key, I think you'll need a replacement key from Jag. The glovebox lock is specifically blocked for the valet key, as is the manual boot release. I guess the dealer may have a master key that can open anything, but I wouldn't count on it.
