One thing for the convertible owners here-- it's actually not that difficult to have front windows up and rears down. I noticed it when I started to wash my car once.
When you're putting your top up, there's a few-seconds delay between when the front of the top latches and when the rear windows go up. If you release the button at that point, and then manually put up the front windows, yes you'll have the rears down. If you're putting the top up in traffic, lots of street noise, and you're in a bit of a hurry you might not wiat-for/notice it...

I hadn't thought of that, as I installed Steve's controller within the first two weeks of ownership, so I haven't had to hold down the button ever. Good Point!
Still though, zero pics of the subject vehicle with the top down still makes me think.....
Maybe they finagled to get it up once due to the luggage separator intricacies and never could figure out the correct operation so they just kept it up???

As CeeJay and 80srule have said before me, the X150 vs. the X100 platforms is simply no contest. I have both. And although I love the look of the X100, after you've lived with the X150 5.0L XKR, you can almost not stand to drive the X100 XKR. It has very sloppy handling, shakes like a bowl of jello going over humps, bumps, and dips and has a much less controlled ride. The 4.2L X150XKR seems like a very good compromise.
