Default Has anyone got up close and personal with a XKRS GT

As only 10 were supposed to be supplied for the Uk market of the 30 manufactured is there any member who has or has got a drive in the GT version. How was the experience and is it as good as videos show.
This car is truly going to be an investment for some lucky people, maybe some day.

On another point i'm surprised no one has made a GT body kit.

What surprised me about this version of the car was they still left in stuff that I would assume to be deleted for a race version. I guess I would have removed the rear seats and installed a real instrument pod. Maybe an actual roll cage inside along with a harness set up. Something to give it a race car flare inside as well as the outside. Speaking of an instrument pod I just saw the new digital instrument display that they are now using in NASCAR. There is one for sale about 20 miles from me. A bit over my price range, and a bit over-the-top for the frequency I drive my XKR, which is fairly often.

That is a seriously good looking car and very tastefully painted. Wish I could afford one of those.

Now that I look closer, I'm not sure but it may not be a "GT". I searched the VIN and couldn't find anything other than XKR-S anywhere. How would one research that? Used the VIN decoder here also doesn't say anything, neither does Topix.
Now I seriously think this is a clone. The ad doesn't specifically SAY it's a GT, but someone sure did make an effort to make it LOOK like one.

I dunno--why would somebody want to clone an XKR-S GT? Seems like a lot of trouble and I'm sure getting OEM parts and then the original car would make the cost way higher than the price they're asking for!

All it'd need (and what that one has) to pretend to be a GT would be the Wing out back and the "GT" emblem on the boot lid. No "GT" on the headrests or door sills.

Also a louvered hood which might be hard to get but could be fabricated.

I bought my suede roof lining parts from a man who used to own an XKR.

He told me that his XKR caught fire due to a faulty coil with only 6k miles on the clock, took Jaguar to court and eventually won and afterwards they made him a one off XKR-S GT with no roll cage and cream leather bucket seats. He showed me the car and it had everything else that the GT should do (louvres, black stripes, massive rear wing, diffusers etc) it looked amazing!

What about the front bumper/splitter? Rear splitter? Brakes and suspension parts? Wheels? Interior trim? All that stuff would be expensive to fabricate aftermarket, and OEM parts would certainly be a ridiculous proposition!

All that, but where in the actual DESCRIPTION would it state that it is a GT? I have no idea where to look beyond VID Decoder and Topix, neither of which say anything definitive.
I'm more looking for someone to show me how to find out for certain, not so much saying any are fake or real.

I bet if you really wanted to know, you could call Jaguar North America with the VIN and they'd be able to tell you. But it is odd that it doesn't show up on Topix, et al.

It's interesting. I just acquired a 13 XKR with the Portfolio Pack and Performance Active Exhaust; neither of which shows up on the Topix report but both are on the window sticker and on the vehicle.

It's in the details Ralph. The active performance exhaust is mentioned in the build and the Portfolio Pack is included in the interior color etc. I'm sure the XKR-S GT can be identified by the specific options in the build sheet available from topix.

Edited:
The performance exhaust is indicated in the build with "EXHAUST PIPE EXT-R PERFORMANCE".

I checked four of the cars using the VIN's in the adverts and they look like standard XKR-S's. One even had red brake calipers. I wonder if the GT's were built by taking standard XKR-S's off the line and sending them to the ETO (Engineered to Order) division to be converted.

I think that is what happened with the JaguarSport XJR-S's back in the day and given the low numbers produced would have made sense rather than sending such a small number of custom cars down the line. There would therefore be no clues in Topix that they were GT's.

Yes, I just checked. They have the same build sheet as the XKR-S. The XKR-S GT have different suspensions, brakes, interiors and exteriors. Weird. May be they were built as XKR-S and modified as you mention.
