Have you tried the paddles? How about SPORT and the paddles? Have you noticed any oily substance underneath the center of the car while it was parked?

Check Your Battery!!!
Use a CTEK or equivalent Battery TENDER!!!
Nearly every problem with these cars is due to low voltage.

Buy a CTek and comfort extension on Ebay or Amazon for under $100. Install in about 15 minutes. Plug in and turn on when XK is not in use about 30 seconds and your low voltage problem is completely solved. But, on the other hand maybe the battery needs to be replaced. How old is it? If it is more than 4 years old I would replace it.

There are several threads dealing with XKs and low voltage issues. Suggest you read through one or two and you will get the picture.

Did you accidentally bump the paddle shifters? The intrument cluster display will indicate which gear you are in or if you are in automatic D or sport DS. Pressing and holding the right paddle will return the car to automatic or shifting to neutral then drive will do the same.
