Default Headlights stay on with ignition off?

On my 2010 XK if headlights are in the ON position they will not go off when ignition is off. Are they supposed to turn off after a period of time? Would be a great help to avoid batt drain. (My 8 yr old 4Runner does!).

A quick review of your owners manual is in order....
In the "Auto" (On) position, they will turn off when you power down the car. You also have delay settings of 30sec, 60sec and 120sec, selectable from the stalk.

Vince, I know the diff between "ON" and "AUTO". Clearly marked on turn signal stalk.
Thanks anyway!

Bogeymanii:

I do believe that Vince was just trying to help.

No need to get upset, as we are all trying very hard to help each other on these forums.

This is not normal behavior. I suggest disconnecting the battery for a few minutes then reconnecting it to reset the computers.

This thread will tell you how to do it and what will need to be done afterwards: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...cement-106281/

Apologies, the fault was mine as I read through the post too quickly.
With so few posts I assumed you were asking an odd question as a new owner.
WhiteXKR is correct. In the On position, your headlights should turn off, but the parking lights will remain on even when you exit and lock the car.
I have not tried to see if the parking lights will time out.

Are you now referring to the parking lights?
Would be interesting to test... I might try tonight... I know things like the trunk interior lights time out if you leave it open long enough, but I would think parking lights would stay on for safety reasons...

Left lights "ON" today when shut down the engine. The headlights went off within a few seconds. The small white and amber lights stayed on.. and on...and on. I finally shut them down after 30 minutes or so.

The car "knows" you don't need headlights on when the engine's off - it assumes you know best when it comes to side/parking lights so doesn't interfere.

Sounds like you've got it sorted, and it seems a "non-issue" so far, as long as it chimes at you reminding you the light switch was left on once you power down...
