My guy said they would not guarantee the adhesion to the original material. True or not, I didn't want to chance it to save $100 or so and maybe have to go back in a year or 2. Plus, the replacement was an exact match so I opted for the new stuff with their warranty.

Typically, the mode of failure on headliners isn't the failure of the adhesive, it is the foam layer between the material and the roof substrate that fails, the foam degrades and breaks apart separating the material from the substrate. That is why simply regluing it doesn't necessarily last because what you are gluing it to is crumbling.

The headliner completely collapsed on my 2009 XKR Coupe. On a recommendation, I took it to Top Stitch Upholstery in Patchogue, NY (Long Island). I left it 5 PM & picked it up 4 PM the next day @ $525. For a Coupe with 124k miles on it, the roof looked like "showroom "! Used my existing liner as it looked fine. A new one would have cost $100 more. Owner said repair would last longer then original given better foam and much better adhesives. Happy Motoring!

I can attest to your satisfaction due to using your original material. I was lucky enough to get mine repaired with the original material so that everything matched perfectly including the sun visors (which few shops want to touch) and the rear two panels. Did you happen to get all of the 6 panels recovered and/or reglued? The headliner itself is not the hardest part of the job, but removing all 6 panels and getting the correct double stitching on the rear two panels can make it a much more tedious and difficult job. The price you paid was right. Living in NY you should be getting years of trouble free use.
